I've got something that I've made out of cardboard that I want someone to make out of plastic. Does any in Sydney know of a place that does this. Because it will be a prototype, I believe there will be some initial cost layout up front. Any guidance that anyone has got would be appreciated.

Hi

That could be expensive, you might be better off with fibreglass.

Injection molding involes a great expense and you wouldnt do a mould unless your going to many millions of the item

Go with the fibreglass as per Steve as the mould will be cheaper

OK so whats the item is it VW related or ???
I read it on FACEBOOK so it must be true

What about polyurethene.

We use liquid to make elbow insulation for the preinsulated pipes.

You would make up a mould, just like fibreglass. But this could be solid as opposed to the hollow of fibreglass

It's only really small - about 2 1/2 inches. Barry I may have to come around and show you and kick around some ideas. Sorry no pics - can't let the secret out.

Squiz,

I have a friend that makes little 'Johnny Walker' figures as bottle corks and the like. He casts them in resin or metal. He also does one offs or thousands.

PM me with some detail: size, narrowest points etc (whatever you can without letting the cat out of the bag) and I'll talk to Steve on the weekend.

if it can be solid and you can seal your cardboard prototype or make a well sealed prototype you can buy rubber compounds that you can make a 2 part mould from to pour resins or other compounts to pour light metals, I have a 4 page car magazine artical on doing it for hood ornaments if your interested
