Whats the fatest tyre you've squeezed under a beetle without flares etc.

The car has been lowered with 15 degrees negative camber and I intend on using wide 5 15 x 7 inch rims off a buggy. They look completely stock for a beetle.

I'm thinking of 225's, 235's or bigger?

Any thoughts

you'll be pushing for much moret han 205s.............check for clearence on the spring plate(depending on offset) and most probably have to clearance the body/chassis mount at top of shocktower

I've got 205/60's on the back of my 58 running the Rader wheels and I had to clearance the body/chassis mount at the top of the shocktower 5mm. Also depends on the ride height of the car and the rear wheel camber....like I know you've got 😂

Doesn't look like I'll be making it to Warrick🥲

Turn the bolts on the spring plate around so the head is on the outside and take a few mm of the body/chassis mount at top of shocktower

I am sure Dieder Holzl has 225 or the like.
Definitely more than 205

I can get 215/15/60 under just, I have 3mm clearance at the spring plate after clearancing the shock tower, but rubs on the body mounts due to the neg camber. However I have 30mm clearance on the outer rim.

I'm thinking an 8mm wheel spacer from Autopro may do the trick, but I'm not sure if I'll need longer wheel bolts yet.

Soon see if it works.

Any suggestions?

I have 205/70 tyres on my brms (oval = short swing axle original drums). I reckon I could fit 215s without too much trouble.

On my ragtop I had 215/50 x17in which fitted under stock guards but had to space wheel out due to offset.

Off set is the problem, which I'm hoping the spacer will fix.

Thanks guys

I finally managed to squeeze some 235/15/65 with the help of some 10mm CB spacers, longer wheel bolts and a little body clearance. But I'll be running with 225/15/65, to save the white walls in case they rub from time to time.

I'll post pick after the rims are blasted and painted.
