I'm currently on the CDMA network, but considering the switch when my contract expires.
What's the guts - GSM, 3G or NextG?
Experiences / advice welcome.

ive been on next G since february
i'd been on cdma for years cos out where i work no GSM gets any signal cept optus if u find the highest point and dont move
main reason i switched was the cdma network coverage was getting worse and worse and i found out thro a mate that works at telstra they are slowy shutting down the towers so ppl switch over
that and typical me destroyed handset #113345235 LOL
the handsets now arent to bad but there was sweet FA range when i got mine i got a samsung a501 which was the best at the time
still waiting for nokia to get off theyre arses and make one
im one of these ppl all i do is txt and call ppl
telstra will bombard u with msgs about foxtell on ur mobile and video conferencing, email ,bla bla bla but havent had any probs with no signal yet so yea im fairly happy

I've been with 3 for about 3 years now. Can't fault them at all. Their plans are really flexible.
Optus 3G, it is super quick and super reliable. Have been with optus for years. Had a great choice of handsets. Currently have Samsung D900 (was sent an LG shine by optus but have given that to hubby as it is hard to use!!!). Also had Samsung handsets for years and never have had a prob!!!
🤘
AFAIK Telstra is the only carrier offering NextG. NextG and 3/3G are different networks.
Am I missing something?
Joel, I've looked on a few forums/discussion boards and there are rumours that Nokia's NextG range will be boosted shortly.
Although GSM coverage is not that bad up and down the coast, I could just go GSM and get a decent handset - I hate flip-phones.

ur right only telstra offers nextG
they told me back in feb when i changed over if i waited another month nokia were coming out with a nextG model
glad i didnt hold my breath for that one
i like nokias they are so simple to use and pass the bounce test very well
i know what u mean about flip phones i hate them thats the main way ive killed my phones they catch on something open and ka-snap
i dont know of any non flip nextG handsets yet

1 slide (Samsung) and a few big qwerty keyboard units, the rest are flippers.

I was on cdma with optus up until a week ago, cdma worked perfectly...Telstra were going to finish the cdma network in October but then put it back til jan 08 and are now talking of easter 08, they havent started shutting it down yet because the nextg or 3g or whatever you want to call it isnt up to scratch.
Ive swapped with optus to the new network but it is crap, doesnt work in many places across the northern rivers, not anywhere near as good as cdma. When i challenged optus, the offered to put me back on cdma until telstra get rid of it sometime next year... The new towers needed to offer the coverage up here wont be in use for another 12-18 months, gotta love living in regional australia...
I have a blackberry phone, which makes no difference, same coverage as my cheap old nokia, tried a brand new nokia and its no better...
im with telstra nextG, have been for a couple of months, its definatly got better coverage, i base this on the fact that im the only person i know who can get mobile phone coverage in omalleys irish pub in mooloolabah which is an otherwise dead zone.

I was told by telstra and optus that it wont be as good as cdma for sometime...
I changed over last October due to CDMA handset dying and telstra's next G is crap!!!
I have worse coverage than before, even to the point where I cant even walk around my house anymore. Poor coverage west of town and call keep dropping out. Basically I hate their new system and after numerous calls to Telstra I have been told it will get better soon. Well its almost 10 months now and guess what still the same.😢
To answer the question/comment paople have made about Nokia releasing a phone. In Australia we use a different frequency to the rest of the world and even the few major providers in Australia use diferent frequencies to each other for their 3G technology. Their is a new manufacturing plant in China who is currently gearing up to make phones for proividers with software changable frequencies, instead of the current hardware set frequency handsets. Therefore it will become more cost effective for manufactures to release handsets into Australia, as they will be able to use the same handset for different carriers ie. Optus, Telstra, etc.
The second reason that Nokia havn't released a handset in Australia is due to the coverage and network issues in regional areas. Nokia have told carriers that until their networks are up to speed and customer complaints go down they don't wish to do business. I cant blaim them who would want their good reputation tarnished by a poor providers network.
