I saved it from the crusher about a year ago and need some help to try and get it started, or at least work out why it won't start!

1. There is a wire that comes in to the engine bay, with the wire that supplys power to the coil. It has a dark green stripe and looks as if it was originally white or cream. Where does this go?

2. The fuel pump has obvious fuel in and out pipes but there is a third, smaller outlet on the 'dry' side of the pump. Mine has 50mm or so of rubber hose attached to this. Where should this go? Should it be a vent to the air cleaner somewhere?

That's it for now.

Thanks,

Andy.

Try the wiring diagrams at:

Another way may be to track it down via the fuse box if it has power (probably need the ignition on). Just work out which fuse it joins to by removing them one at a time and see what is supposed to be on that fuse from the website above.

My fuel pump didn't have one of these but I recall reading that they were some sort of vent and didn't join to anything

hi type2nut2

i've got a 1800 kombi which i just put the engine back in a few months ago. from memory that third short hose coming from the fuel pump is a release valve or something (as woz_mnskmobi said). it doesn't need to go anywhere, except down to the road.
and secondly, that wire (white with green stripe) should go to the opposite side of the coil that the other (black) higher amp wire connects to the coil.

there are numerous other wires (not too many though) that all break off from the wiring loom at different stages. if it not's for the coil, it could simply be your oil pressure switch, or for the cut-off solenoids on the LH carb. the wire to the carby has 3 (or 2, can't remember) connections though so i doubt the one you are describing is that one.
anyways, that's my two cents. hopefully you would have got it running by now...

Thanks for your help guys.

I do have it going now and it is for sale here:

I only bought it to save it from the crusher so now that it is going (albeit badly) hopefully someone will buy it and restore it to some form of former glory!

Cheers,

Andy.
