My alternator is touching on the fuel pump and if i push the fan cowl back at the top it will move clear of the pump but will sag back if let go. The cowl is tight. Is it supposed to have something between the stand and the alternator?

Sorry, I should have mentioned that it touches with the clamp on and if i take the clamp off i can get it in the right place.

If it is touching odds on you have a generator fuel pump there

It should be ok - i am guessing it is like 1 mm difference.

You have 3 choices
1) leave it and worry about something worth worring about
2) grind a little bit away from the alternator housing
3) buyan alternator fuel pump and change it over

Main problem is you cant change the pump without loosening the housing.
If it is on and working I would leave it until there is a problem

Yes thats probably correct...
a generator pump...
the Alternator pump is offset...

Its best to grind a bit off the alternator to stop any vibrations etc...
so everything fits correct...

buy the correct fuel pump when using a alternator also the push rod is a different length so you will need one of them as well
I read it on FACEBOOK so it must be true
