Went to fire up the new engine and i am getting a clicking sound but nothing else.I charged the battery and i had the wires marked so they went back in the right places. The fuel gauge needle is moving but i have no oil pressure or generator light.
Any ideas?

have u blown a replay? check the starter solenoid, it may be jammed up if it's been sitting for a while or knackered. Apart from that I'm not the best for electrical advise!

Most of the electrics sorted, now just seem to have a problem with the oil pressure light. I seem to have no power at the wire to the sensor. The light went out when i turned the engine over with no plugs in but now it is staying on. It does the same if left unplugged.

the wire should have no power at it at the switch.
if you ground out the wire that goes to the oil pressure switch with the ign on, the light should come on on the dash.
if it went out with the plugs out, maybe you are taking a bit to get oil pressure up with the plugs in??

The gen light, and oil lights are both triggered by ground signal, not + power.
the black wire to the back of the guage going to those globes should have + power though

I held the wire on an exhaust bolt and also joined another piece so it was long enough to reach a bare spot on the bumper bracket but the light did not come on(at seperate times of course).

Have you checked the bulb? ie. pull it out and put power on it from the battery just in case its blown. Otherwise if you have a multimeter check the continuity of the wire from the pressure switch. The wires have a habit of breaking just near the crimps when removed and replaced to often.

Problem solved, i had the wires right when i first turned the engine over without plugs and later decided to try and make things neater. only after checking if i had power at the bulb end and then going to the engine and thinking hmm that wire's not the same colour as the other end and swapping it with another, the oil light now works,DOH.
Sorry guys and thanks for all your input.
