Hi All,

This is my 1986 944 turbo brake conversion. Basically the best performance brake enhancment you can make to a vw, especially if your planning from stopping the car from speeds above 200km/h repeatadly. In an 800kg vw and good tyres, you can out brake pretty much anything on the road.

These are 4 piston brembo calipers with 298x14mm ventilated rotors and some "special" bendix pads.

I am about to do a major suspension upgrade which makes all this gear obsolite. So, Im just putting this out there to see if there is any interested.

The front brakes are 4 piston brembo 944 calipers modified to fit a CB disc brake conversion dropped spindles. The calipers are modified to be a direct bolt on and will fit the ball joint or king and link (which they are currently mounted on).

The spindles have some custom sleves machined up as an interference fit over the bearing surfaces to enlarge where the bearings run. This allows the use of the 1986 944 turbo bearings, hubs, and rotors with no additional modifications. The king and link spindles I have already have these bushings made. If you wanted to fit them to ball joint youd have to have some machined up.

The rear brakes are 1986 944 turbo as well, and use the 86 944 turbo backing plates and e-brake arrangement with 944S rotors. The hubs are machined for the sort spline swing axel axels but will fit IRS or late model swing if you make a 15mm spacer, or just get another pair of 944S hubs. The whole arrangement is a bolt on affair, and uses a few special seals to adapt the size diferences between some area's.

I ran 17x7" wide rims under stock width guards with this brake arrangement.

I've also run 15x6" on the front which required a 15mm wheel spacer to allow the fuch to clear the caliper but it does work. The front beam is narrowed 2" though.

Feel free to ask questions.

I will sell the conversion as parts, or complete and am negotiable.

$2000 for the front with spindles, calipers, rotors, hubs and bendix pads. Has near new king and link pins in the carriers that will come with the converison.

$1500 for the rear which is the backing plates, rotors, hubs, calpers and bendix pads.

The rotors are near new and have about 5000 on the rear and 10,000k on the front. No visable signs of wear.

Cheers,
Ian

Nice setup...and I'd consider this a reasonable price, especially the hard work has been done.

These use the standard master cylinder too don't they?

Yes a standard dual circuit master cylinder does the job, though some conversions convert to 911 19mm master cylinder. I've had no bias issues though. Once the brakes are up to temp you can just stand on them and the car practically does a hand stand.
