When will people realise that it takes more than a fiberglass bumper/body kit & rear spoiler to make a shitbox hatchback into a hero car.

That is hysterical!! In the 70's and early 80's I used to go all over the UK to rod runs and though there was always superb cars turn up but every so often somebody would appear with the shagpile carpet on the ceiling and wooden spoiler and consider it a show car. Some of the cars were downright dangerous, but I'm glad somebody like Barryboys has started to put them together in one forum (plus that's my hotmail address!).

Steff - I'm with you on this one mate - was only thinking the other day about the number of Mk1 Escort 1300's (back in the late 70's) that were part converted to Mexico's with huge bulging fibre glass flares, but retaining the original skinny rubber..... oh how we laughed as pop-rivets broke free going round corners (obviously the g-force was huge) and flares flapped in the breeze.......
