The new fuel pumps that I have used have all been Brazilian - they work OK....

.... however I have found that since fitting the Brazilian fuel pump to my 1200 that the 28pict carb keeps flooding when the engine is switched off after a run that allows the engine to reach operating temp. I'm told that this isn't a problem with other carbs (off the bigger engines).

Do You an electromagnetic fuel cutoff solenoid on Your carburetor...?? the green thing with the wire coming off it, under the chromed air filter in the centre..
thats why its there...

The PICT28 may not have had them...

You need to adjust the float level in the carburetor
as fuel flooding isn't good for any engine...

and extremely bad if the fuel gets into the engine oil..

Also, Brazillian is usually better than Mexican...
all the Mexican bits I've seen have been rubbish..
You can get bad and good quality Brazillian parts...
knowing which one is Good....
is impossible to tell..... until its too late...

I believe that they were an option on the 28PICT - I found and fitted a 6V fuel cut-off solenoid (have you ever seen a 6V one before?), it reduced the likelyhood of the engine running on, however it didn't have any effect on the flooding which occured about 2 to 5 minuites after the hot engine stopped.

I did adjust the float level - several times ... ended up with so many washers under the needle and seat that it looked silly. All this achieved was a longer time delay between the engine being turned off and the carb flooding.
I have heard of others that run 28PICT carbs and Brazilian pumps that suffer the same problem - most people replace the carb with a 30 PICT (which has the bigger float) and the problem goes away ... with the added benefit of a little more grunt from the 1200's too!
I can only assume that the Brazilian pumps cause a higher residual pressure to remain in the fuel line between the pump and the carb and that this higher pressure (coupled with the expanding fuel caused by the high engine bay temp) is just too high for the small round float in the 28PICT, forcing it down and allowing excess fuel into the float bowl, which then runs down the throat of the carbie. This is the most sensible reason/explanation that I can come up with (any other explanations are welcome if you have them!)
I would dearly like to rebuild one of the old original style pumps and see what happens - has anyone done a rebuild on one of these pumps?

I have found the aftermarket needle/seats in most carb kits to not seal the best. I got some German ones which helped, not sure if they are still available or not? The after market ones have a solid brass stem that sits against the float, the german ones had a little spring loaded ball that sits against the float.
It would help prevent residual pressure from the pump leaking in.
Heat in the engine is also a factor, the hotter the engine bay gets once the engine is turned off, the more the fuel in the bowl expands causing it to drip out of the main jet into the throat. Not so easy to prevent!!
I have seen in old motor bike carbies that had an over flow tube in the bowl to prevent the excess fuel flooding. Not that I think it's a good solution!

i bought a Brazilian fuel carb on Saturday , the store which sold it to me said i will be back in less than a year , they are made at a price and i guess the peso isnt doing tooo well in the world`s economy.
If you have an old original , there are kits still available.
Refurbish the old originals as they will go further for longer..
