Well I was hoping to get some advice about the best way to improve the performance of my 64 Beetle.
I aren't complaining at the moment but I was just wondering what would give me the:
* Most improvement for money
AND
*Be the least hassle and complication
Here is what I have now (as quoted in ad when I bought her)
"The engine was built fresh using a 1973 AS36 case which was line bored and crack tested.
The 200mm flywheel was lightened to 12.5lbs before balancing.
The internal reciprocating parts (crank, rods, pistons and flywheel/clutch and pulley) were dynamically balanced prior to assembly.
The freshly ground crank and new Scat C35 (.451" lift x 286 degree duration) camshaft and new lifters were assembled. A new 87mm piston and cylinder kit was fitted to give 1641cc.
The 040 heads were fitted with new valves, guides and seats.
Atop the case sits a custom 38mm polished stainless steel manifold housing a custom tuned 38mm twin throat Webber.
A new 200mm clutch and pressure plate was bolted up.
In went the .009 Bosch mechanical advance distributor.
A set of heat wraped stainless steel extractors and a single pack stainless steel muffler were then fitted. "
I really beleive this is a nice motor as she doesnt leak any oil, starts on the button every time and is pretty stingy on fuel.
I guess I am always thinking and looking for improvements and I know you guys will have some ideas!
Biggest increase for buck... go the blower with a draw through carb, maybe even the same one would do the job.
Comes down to how much you can do yourself.

Kadron twin carbs are under $1000 new................would take about 3-4 hours to fit with NO modification to any bodywork or tinware...........and are low maintenance.
Personally that seems a pretty nice combo. I think the sugestions arn't really realistic for value for money upgrades. It depends on what you want to do? jsut a hotter street motor? Maybe more capacity (eg 1915) or twin carbs would be an option. The kads for the current engine combo or twin 40mm wbbers etc for a 1776. Other than that spend some money on a really good tune, and thats about ti for you current setup. Maybe better ignition, but won't get you heaps more power for the money you spend.
Othere wise, it is a large step up to the next round of rupgrades. Eg larger capacity, better heads, bigger carbies, counterweighted crank, bigger cam, etc etc. your starting to talk turbo upgrade region in terms of money then. Plus you will loose lower end power, it wont won't to idle as well etc etc........
I have no sympathy for my car, only the wallet that pays for it!
Go hard or go home!!!!
