Looking to buy a used medium size family car so went looking on the weekend. I wasn't really looking for anything specific but I came across a Rover 75. Fully loaded with everything (leather, all electrics, park assist, sat nav, TV, mem seats, etc). All that for low to mid $20s. I know Rover packed up and went home few years ago. Does anyone own one or know much about them? I read good and bad things about them. One of the car yards told me that the V6 engine is from a Kia Carnival so parts are available. Is this true?
Cheers

I've read some interesting things have happened to those Kia Carnival V6 motors. Not sure if it's the motor in the Rover though.

The Rover 75 though was based on the MG. I believe it may also have some Jaguar connections too, so do some research on model cross-polination through the Rover, MG, and the Jag. Good old drive.com.au may help oyu dig out some info too.

I'm not sure about the Rover 75, but there was a time when a Rover was a rebadged/rebodied Honda. Is that still the case?

Rover/MG went bust in 2005...

I didn't know they were selling Rovers over here...
apart from Land Rovers and Discoveries and 110...

the 75 is a nice looking car... but without backup parts
not really a good buy....

The Rover company was purchased by a chinese company
who are now making [Rover 75] Roewe 750

Ford has the rights to MG name... but another chinese company bought out MG and is now making the MG7

The Rover car has a good reputation in the UK...

many of the police cars in the Bill are Rovers...

Mr Bucket in the TV show drove a HONDA which had Rover badges..

The Rover 75 was designed by BMW who owned the company at the time...

not sure who made the engines..
the diesel engine was a BMW...
KV6 was the 2.5 L 6 cylinder...

The Rover 75 won over 20 awards worldwide...
including best car etc...

Hi

Best car awards are not a real world indication of cars credibility, they may be nice to drive nice, have a good turning circle and big boot, which will impress the testers, but what does all that mean in the real world.

Take later Astras & Vectras, they win awards but are known in the trade as shit boxes and for things wearing out and stuffing up long before, Toyota's, Nissan's, Mazda's & Subaru's would.

Top Gear etc rave about Transit vans, in Australia they have bad reputation.

The Camira won a best car award, say no more.

car forums. where a lot of peoples good intentions end up taking a good old car off the road forever never ever to see the road again. 🥲

Hi

The Camira was great money spinner for mechanics, how many hoses in the cooling system? A few of those a week and you could shut the doors early.

You are right.

I've owned two Camiras and the only things that have needed replacement have been made of rubber. Bushes, hoses, engine mountings, boots etc..

Neither burned oil, and both had a quite good performance. I must have had two of the rare good ones.

My present JE two litre Camira is being kept because it contains the engine and gearbox of my next buggy. Well that's the plan anyway.

a lot of the kia engines are copies of the mazda engines and made in korea or wherever it is.. in fact they use pretty much the same part numbers also on the copy engines...
