boulder wrote:I heard from a friend in the vintage car movement that the CMC are trying to hunt down the "Hotrod" (used very losely) on club plates. If they catch up with this vehicle and owner it will cause issues for ALL CLUBS on the Historic vehicle plate scheme. It won't matter if they are VW clubs or not it will affect everyone.
Clubs & Club registrars should be more careful with what they allow to be on the historic plate scheme.
A lot of people 'heard' a lot of things from all sorts of people, but if the CMC (whoever they are) were really serious and had any useful power the car in question would have been dealt with years ago coz they all know where Greedy comes from. Greedy fought hard to allow the car to have it's rego based on historical rodding precedent and the NSW RTA (a fussy bunch) were happy with his argument. Same goes for lots of other rods and customs that I personally might not be happy about having street rego.

I think it's just better to say, "That car is not my style" and move on.

Hey I started this rego debate, Its not about like or dislike its about sticking to the rules regarding the Historical Rego Scheme, it was not setup to cover this sort of thing. It is about keeping standard or slightly modified vehicles, for safety reasons( brakes, seatbelts etc) on the road to be used at club events & shows etc. If you want to get technical regarding plate usage all events that a vehicle attends must be on the CMC (Council of Motor Clubs) calendar otherwise the vehicle is not classed as being registered.
Each club with Historic rego entitlement should have a Vintage Registar that knows what can & can't be allowed.
If this thing is classed a s a hotrod put it hotrod rego dont try and flaunt the system that will in the end stuff it for every one.

Hot Rod/Street Rod has a legal definition in Australia (Commonwealth Legislation):
A Street Rod/Hot Rod is: "a vehicle that has a body and frame that were built before 1949, that has been modified for safe road use, or a replica of a vehicle the body and frame of which were built before 1949."

Then it would have SR plates. For which there is only one inspector for NSW. I know he hasn't seen it.
As it's not of pre-49 heritage, does not have an original pre-49 chassis, nor a replica chassis resembling a pre-49 chassis, nor it's engine in the right place to be a replica pre-49 it is not registered as a hot rod in any way shape or form.

A hot rod on anything other than SR plates has an original chassis and comes under Modified Production or has a fabricated replica chassis and will come under ICV rules - in both cases will have normal number plates.

It has H plates. However Greedy managed to get them on it is a whole different matter than anything to do with hot rods. If he got them legitimately, good on him for pulling the wool over someones eyes, one signature is all takes.

Matt ,
I wasn't seriously meaning it really shoud be classed as a rod either, In my opinion it should not be on either forms of rego.
Would it pass a blue slip inspection i wonder.

Hi Matt

So if Greedy fitted a pre 1949 chassis under his car, would it pass as a street rod or is it another can of worms?

Whats wrong with that ( ie having a 'hotrod' on vintage plates?) The car ( while not my cup of tea) is someones' love, pride and joy - and is apparently road worthy. Just how many ways are there to register a hobby vehicle outside the normal regular registration process? (Serious question as I do not know!) While that car may not float my boat ( or your boat obviously) , I say good luck to the owner - a good thing that our cars are different in many ways - it helped make the day more interesting. Some people dont like "Rats" either.. Some dont like keeping their rides "original" - others go for "The German Look", or The Californian Look.. gosh how many "looks" are there? Its different strokes for different folks..It would be a boring show if all the VeeDubs were the same. They are such great, versatile cars - probably why this forum is as big and strong as it is!

As for the food and its cost? Strewth.. when was the last time you went to the footy!? I had a meat pie and it was fantastic.. They even had waxed drinking staws!! Something my wife and I had not seen in many years!

Looking forward to Bugin 2009...By then my daughters bug should be sitting on show as well.

Ever heard of the drug smuggler single cab splitty built by KCW in the states? It was built to be the lowest non bages splitty on earth. Its now in Australia, and on SR plates. Its no pre 49. It can be done quite easily, if it looks the part. Its not about age so much anymore, as long as it has a hotrod feel about it, and the work is safe. Im thinking of putting my zwitter project on SR plates, cause its easier than club historic when its on bags with a trans raise etc etc.

Only in Victoria. Con has different rules to play with. Hence why Victoria isn't keen to be part of the NatTAC and adopt the national Guidelines. This car is in NSW.

Victoria also has an early Commonbore on SR plates. Completely different system.

Not if its a 74. A 49 pan is very different to a 74
