anyone know how to repair a fuel guage within a 1972 super beetle.
it is not interchangeagle like most as it is hard to get at.
tried electrix and does not work so have to change.
might have to change the whole speedo fuel guage unit as a last resort.
can anyone help. and or whats a new one worth. ( the lot ) that is.

Cheers Paul.

Fuel gauge should be able to be unscrewed off the back of the speedo. Not sure if there is anything you can do to repair them & I am unsure if they are available new. Someone else will have to chime in here.

Often it's the voltage stabilizer, so check that too.

Still fairly sure they can be unscrewed off the back of the speedo. Broken fuel gauge does not mean replacing the complete speedo. Fuel gauge is only pretty small located on the upper rear of the speedo with 2 small screws.

Hi

That 100 MPH 72 model speedo was Australian made, the fuel gauges are different. Any good instrument guy should be able to fix it. You might be better off getting a 160 KPH one of eBay.

that explains why everyone overseas looks at me crosseyed when i talk about this freak speedo
that was in freinds 72 1300 bug
but ive seen them in supers too
u can see the fuel gauge face plate is just a tiny bit different
any idea steve why they did this for a few months only in 72?
