My brother just decided that the new engine he installed in my bug wasn't running as well as it should.
So off he goes ripping out the dizzy and whacking new ones in. There were about 4 laying there he wanted to try. Who am I to argue.
So in they go. But the bug wont go. He switches this he switches that and then whilst I am the front turning the key a bang from hell eminates from the back of the car.
Then there is a moan and then silence.
I go to the back expecting to find my bro holding his ears from the noise.
What I see is him hopping about holding his leg near his knee.
A large flame burst forth from the exhaust and had such heat and ferocity that it scorched his long pants and scolded the skin on his leg. Satinhimelf would have been covering up.
It is slack but I haven't stopped laughing since i left after we finally got it going.
If it is going to happen it will happen to perfect Pete.
He used to have his own express entry card at John Hunter Hopsital.
I suppose you had to be there. Tears still streaming down my cheeks.
I am sure there are other classic moments when fate has stepped in to make us look a little silly. Share what you have the laughter of remenising is great medicine.
And its not true that when my brother starts doing something you hear the song Rip Tear Bust, I must I must I must.....lol
My 58 hadn't run for about 12 years, and with a bit of fuel straight into the carby and a lot of throttle I managed to get it running. It didn't quite sound like it should have, then I hear this bang and a screwdriver flies out the exhaust and down the driveway! My 2-y-o was standing at the back and he raced to pick it up, glad that I managed to get it back out for him after he must have shoved it in there earlier in the afternoon.
Hi
A friend of mine had a similar backfire from a VW, it had peashooter exhaust, it was on bare skin, he still has the scar on his leg impregnated with rust.
I was working on a bug with a very high output ignition system, I got a zap from it into my hand and I saw the spark travel through my knee and overalls back into the bumper of the car, boy it hurt.
Steve
i was working on a 1.6 kombi, it just wouldn't run right, like it was running out of fuel all the time, i advanced and then retarded the timing, poked this, adjusted that, i was sat in the drivers seat, trying to start it then there was this "poof" sound, i didn't think too much about it, racking my brain as to what the hell was wrong, then i looked in the rear veiw mirror to see the entire back window covered in flames! i was round quick sharp with a fire extinguisher, i found the problem was a cracked carby resevoir, the fuel was pourin out down the back and a carby back fire ignited it!
i always work with a fire extinguisher close by now!

This will make you larf.
I've had both these happen to me over the years, just without the rust stains.

Hi Matt
We never learn do we, those peashooters get very close to some important parts of the anatomy sometimes.
I just thought of another thing I did. I was working in my garage at home which was under the house, I was actually welding a gland nut to my engine stand and didn't realise that I set the work bench on fire, my wife realised all right, she was watching telly and saw smoke coming through the carpet, she gets really worried when Ive been working at home and I don't answer the phone.
Steve
Some years back I had to rebuild an old engine in the buggy but left for work before it was finished. Got home that afternoon, replaced the spark plugs and a few othe little things and tried to start it up but nothing, absolute dead silence. I tried to turn it over by hand and it moved a bit but wouldn't go any further. I was mystified so to cut a long story short we had a gravel drive and my son who was about two at the time had collected as many small stones as he could and had filled every cylinder with them via the plug holes!!! It must have taken him ages! I wasn't laughing at the time🙁 .On a different note many years ago I had a boom tube fitted (the one piece chrome exhaust that fits into the standard silencer) and it hadn't been fitted right, anyway it came off while driving around London and my mate jumped out of the car almost before I had stopped to retrieve it. I tried honestly to tell him that it would be hot but not very loudly🙅 The look on his face when he picked it up was priceless😵💫

Rightly so hey Steve
Tell you what tho, it's bloody hard to notice those flames with a welding mask on.
Barry, hear you met our neighbour the other day.
Lookout, it's a very small world.
