I just moved from Syd to Perth and brought my bug with me. It got damaged in transit but TNT have admitted liability so im promised it will all get straightened out (but thats another story), anyway I will eventually have to transfer the rego from NSW to WA and i've had a couple of people say its hard to get an older car to pass rego here as they have to go over the pits - they are really strict and any little thing will be picked up..

I never had a problem with rego is Sydney but the car is a non-restored 62 with usual "character" eg small holes in floor 😊- any suggestions how best to approach this? I could do without having to do a full restoration before I can drive it anywhere...

the pits guys have a job to do, i found they can be picky but most of em can't be arsed, it all depends who you get and what mood they're in!one of my cars failed the pits test cos there were no door cards, in the uk it would have failed on tyres (old cross plys) rear lenses (badly faded) no washers. poor wipers, a mark on the windscreen.
i'm having more "fun" with a permit to modify! they won't let you do anything legally!!!!😬

best thing is just take it to them, polite small talk, and see if you can find a vw lover explain that they will "understand" your pride n joy!

Hey sugarlips,

Did the same thing with my beetle... moved from Syd to Perth, but I DROVE it over 😀
Think of it as an NRMA pre-purchase inspection. This is a good thing. All the holes, bad brakes, loose components... dodgy bits etc get picked up and you fix that list. You're not going to be over the pits again in a LONG time, so grit your teeth, fix the probs, and spend the next ten years paying rego by POST.
It Rocks 😀

Even if you have a suspicious-looking NOS setup in the back....
