Having moved Syd - Perth I will need to get new number plates in WA, which means I have to give up my NSW ones - I have BUG197 on Centennial plates, a lot of people have commented on tem in the past (ie how much did they cost - answer: they came with the car).
I appreciate they're not worth thousands or anything but rather than just surrender them to the RTA can I try to sell them? and if so - besides them only being worth what someone is willing to pay - how to I value them?

the value is what someone wants to pay and in my case not much
From the RTA website:
"Can I sell my plates or give them to a friend?
Only personalised plus number plates can be sold or transferred and transfer fees will apply. All other number plates are only transferable to immediate family members, de facto couples or between vehicles owned by the same company. "
"personalised plus" are custom plates like "HOTVW" or "SUGAR" which dont follow the standard format of "ABC-123". "BUG-197" follows the standard "ABC-123" format, so are therefore classified as a "personalised" plate, so you cant sell them.
I just checked, there are a heap of plates available beginning in "BUG", so even if you could sell them, I dont think they would be worth much.
in Queensland you buy them there yours...end of story..I love Queensland !
Keep them and stick them on your garage wall??? cheers shane.

Thanks guys that makes sense I will hand them in. I agree they wouldnt have been worth a lot even if I couldve sold them but as a matter of principal any money that i can avoid giving away to the RTA I will 😉
