Was thinking to myself the other day as to why someone wouldnt upgrade to 94s if they needed new cylinders and pistons on their standard 1600. Would it be ok to hav a 1916 with standard cam, heads, carb and manifold? What sort of price would you be looking at for the machining for a 1916? Would the power increase be worth it?

u could would be good for torque
barry has an engine pretty much that same setup
but while its split to get opened out may as well chuck in a decent cam and do some headwork to take full advantage of the increase plus that makes it easier to do mods further down the track

theres NO substitute for Cubic Capacity

but as per above a new cam and other bits will also help due to the cost involved in the engine strip, machining and assembly etc etc
I read it on FACEBOOK so it must be true

Yep - that is what Peter Shelley did for my motor - except they did change the cam is a 22/62

I have 50 ponies at the wheels.
A 25% increase over standard

Reckon it would cost about $750 extra over a "standard" rebuild.
$100 extra for new cam
$300?? machine??
$300 ?? extra for 94's over 85.5's

Not bad for a 25% increase.
Same carb - same exhaust

Does that feel alot faster?
How much hp do you think you would make with an aftermarket exhaust and some webbers?

You'll find a Pobjoy (for example) built 1916cc with Kadrons, decent exhaust and appropriate cam for standard DP heads delivers about 80hp at the treads - that's approaching double the standard VW's output

It's really a shame to 'half-build' a 1916 with standard breathing

DO NOT run a 1916 with a standard cam..........it will run hot and not perform.

Is there a reason that you went 1776 instead of 1916, Joel?

well my case was already bored for that size cos it used to be an 1835 but also im not really keen on how close to the headstuds cutting for 94mm goes but if u use 8mm studs its no real biggy and most guys go for 1916 over 1776 cos it costs the same to machine the case/heads for either and theres no real price difference between 90.5mm and 94mm P&Cs
