Wanting to clean out under front bonnet/spare wheel compartment. Would like to gerni this all out as it`s a bit grubby. I`ve gerni`d thousands of cars in my years as a detailer but never done a beetle. So how does one get rid of the water that will fall/fill behind the inner wheel arch wells under the bonnet? Like right behind where the brake cylinder is located as well as drivers side. Thanks
use a sponge or rag to sop out the residue and sit the car in the sun for a while
That area goes into thge foot well
If you peel the carpet back a bit you will see a hole (an "on purpose hole" ) in the A Pillar
this is where t he water will come out
When you gunna post some pics of this L??
Futue te ipsum!!!
I have a good half dozen or so pics but trying to upload here says they`re too big and i don`t know how to resize as i`m not too puter literate.
Thanks vw54 and bizarre.
email the pics and I can resize for you
I PM'd my email to you
What my garage isn't messy........Well chaos is a form of order isn't it?
Thanks for getting the pics up. yes, a set of lowered struts/porsche wheels would make it look a lot better. I had 14x6 on an older beetle from years ago and thought i could do the same with this one but i think keeping it in the 'family look' with porsche wheels is the way to go.
Ooops. Meant to say 14x6 'Ford' wheels....
pressure cleaning is the easiest yes but probably not a good idea tho
ur gonna end up flooding the car
the water will run down the to 2 quarter panel (blackhole) cavities which will leak into the car thro the holes in the bottom and soak the carpet not to mention ruin the cardboard heater hoses down there which are a nightmare to replace (involves dash removal)
u also risk getting water into the brake fluid bottle and various wiring under there
is it really that dirty?
my convertable Lbug has had a colour change and all they did was paint under the bonnet black with that thick body deadner paint, looked ok
my white Lbug was abit mouldy under there cos it just sat around in garages all the time
all i did was polish up the paint came up like new again
OK. You`ve convinced me not to use a gerni. Damn i got three of them sitting here not being used! So it`s good ol` aussie muscle and detergent.Got plenty of that. No sweat. I like a clean painted surface as opposed to black paint/sound deadener to the front bonnet. As for the rear end, i`ll look into that after the show. For now a good scrub under front bonnet / storage area plus some carpet will suffice. I wasn`t aware of there being holes down the bottom leading into the carpet. I see two plastic grommets on the pillar where the hinges bolt onto. One up top,one near bottom. And am not going to peel back the carpet as it`s been glued so better left as is. Thanks for the advise DUB74L.
hey thugbug just finished getting mine ready dam is that time
yeah i hate that black undercoat look 2
alwayys looks like its hiding rust which it was on that bug...
under the carpet at the bottom of the door pillars around the corner from the door screw plugs theres a big sqaure hole about 50x50mm for accessing the heater hose at the bottom
Hi
A good way to remove a rust trap in all bugs.
Follow the line of drip rail right to the bottom near the door hinge, VW thoughtfully put a drain hole there to drain water and crud from the area your talking about below inner wheel arch wells under the bonnet, only problem is its too small and blocks up.
Get an angle grinder and neatly lop a few mm off the bottom, no one will ever notice, now all the crap that accumulates there will just fall straight through.
