Is anyone familiar with the fuel line on a 73 super bug?
I noticed the fuel lines from the metal line out of the fire wall were leaking to the fuel pump and to the carby, so I replaced them with new hose and clamps.
But I'm still getting the smell of leaking petrol somewhere, now I know when you replace hoses it has a habit of putting extra pressure on old hose that may be on the line elsewhere, but I'd rather get a bit of a tip on how the line is placed and constructed before I go sticking myself under a jacked up and propped car.
Any help in the interests of safety would be great.

Thanks

Hi Glen

nearly everytime ive had a super with a fuel smell its been either the breather hoses or filler hoses on the fuel tank under the hood
have u just replaced the flex line in the engine bay?
cos theres also a lenght from the engine down to the chassis and from the chassis upto the fuel tank
but the fuel tank needs removing to do this one
cos of that its often neglected
also this hose is the safest place to put a fuel filter
many past owners have put one there and ppl that have bought the car later had no idea and it blocks and causes all sorts of night mares
bugs b4 73 never had fuel filters only a gauze over the pickup in the tank and a cone filter in the fuel pump but after 73 in superbugs atleast the tank gauze is gone and theres a filter under the tank
my blue 73 still had the factory filter there when i got it 🤪 very blocked

Thanks for that mate, I'll investigate around the tank and see what's there and if it needs replacing, I made sure that there was a filter in the rear, and I'll make a bracket for it soon so it doesn’t move around.
Still got a bit of work to go on this Bug, need to get the tappets done as there's a little to much rattle for my liking and I'm having some idling problems as well, most times it idles at the lights with no problems but some times it just won't hold its revs and stalls while stationary.

I'll get the important things done then look at the appearance later.

here just a suggestion move the filter out of the engine bay and down to near the gear box, seen way too many fires started from leaks near the filter like that

Fair call, I'll look into it, mind you, you should have seen it before.
there was cloth covered hose and you could't see that the ends were cracked and leaking because of the covering and there was not one hose clamp, they'd used zip ties all round.
