Im not going to be much help but ma i ask what happened to all the semi auto parts, e.g the oil pump, atf tanks, flex plate etc? Would be interested in grabbing them if your not using them :P

I also found a few links,

Also the vwar.org forum can be a good resource even if we will cry at an autostick being murdered 😉

I just did it about 7 days ago, its all welded up man. U got msn?
we can have a chat.

Cost me $7 for the tube from work, a cutting disk, a grinding disk, some mig wire, arc welding rods and i used a bit of hammer tone paint to be padantic about rust where i welded inside the tunnel.

I had trouble finding exact details but i took a leap of faith. Only concern i got was where the cutch cable hook is positioned inside the tunnel on the pedal assembly. (whether its centre, left right etc....)

I put mine in the centre, with enough room to turn slightly left or right. I have not got the pedals yet to sus it out.

I went to my hardware store and bought 3 metres of structural steel tube, kinda stuff they use for welding to steel poles/posts on pole homes to maintain tension and hold em up. Dad's been using em on our construction site. they are pretty tough. will have to measure the ID.

I drilled a hole in the pan at the back, to the left of the chassis tunnel hole where the gearbox nose cone meets the shifter hole. Next to the accelerator cable outlet.

I will have to take photos of where i cut. Pick your own hole to cut just back from the handbrake, on the side of course. The other hole will be at the front (this is all drivers side of the tunnel).

The hole at the front, well i was lucky to just miss this support bit of metal thats inside the tube that holds up what ever lines pass through, so i was right next to it to weld the clutch tube dead in the centre of it, with about 15cm distance still away from the clutch cable hook from the pedals.

I just cut the 2 holes by grinding 3 sides of a rectangle, probably about 15cm across and 10cm down, and used a flat head to lever the cut open, so when i was done, i could just bend it back up, and weld it together.

I welded the tube firmly the outlet of the back of the chassis, and on that metal plate support inside the tunnel at the front, I was considering a way of mixing it in the centre of the tunnel but no easy way presented itself. With what i had welded, i gave it a real physical beating to see if it was strong enough. It could handle me thrashing and pulling on it like a maniac so i thought it would be right for me to assume it won't kill itself whilst driving.

Before fitting the tube, i had to put it in and out a few times through the front of the chassis to put in appropriate bends at accute angles to come out at the right position and meet in the middle of the metal support in the tunnel. Also to clear the shifter rods and all other doo-daddles...

I have cleaned it up, and just organised a source for a body lift kit to stiffen up the chassis after chopping it and welding it back up, just in case. (gut feeling)

It actually wasn't that bad of a job, was just overwhelming at first. Fitting an extra 2 stainless steel fuel lines (10mm ID and 8mm ID with thick 1.5mm walls) was the bigger challenge, especially trying to feel them through to the rear forks where the original fuel line is.

took a day to casually fit the clutch tube.
