Hi, Just wondering if anyone had any experience with CB performance turnkey engines? With the exchange rate this engine is about $5200 australian dollars and at 120hp sounds good. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

even if I wanted a VW Engine I would not buy one of them. Google and have a look on The Samba and Shoptalk Forums. There were a few issues with them and Geko (??spelling) and without getting any sort of warranty you would be pissed if you landed one with issues.

oh an don't forget that is USA HP so it would be about 85 AUD HP at the wheels

So I'm better off getting a Pobjoy with Steriods specs with a 25000km warranty for an extra few thousand?

extra few thousand ?
$5200 purchase
$550 freight (min)
$850 tax and fees (min)
$6600 more like $7000 me thinks.
What is Stan charging for a 1916 ?

Don't know, from the forums I figured $8-10k. Anyone know?
CB is a bit far to go when requiring a warranty issue

more like 60 to 70 HP at the wheels

I was quoted more than $550 for freight on heads and Webers, so gettig a whole engine here will be waay more than that

I'm in Sydney. Did you buy an engine off Rod Penrose? What specs?
Man I keep some shit .... Just found an invoice fro a a complete base 1916 with Kadrons from Stan Pobjoy dated May 1997 and it was $6165.00 and is lower spec than the CB one you have listed. Don't know if the price is worth anything now but that is what one cost in 1997...

Craig Torrens wrote:Kadron Pobjoy is about the same price today..........when you say "lower spec", that doesn't mean it performs any less......Base 1916 is also around 85hp ATW which is around 120 HP at the flywheel, or the same as the CB motor.
My Ragtop motor has around 120hp ATW or about 170hp at the flywheel, cost me well under 6k to build buying the parts smartly.
If it's my old engine Brad is referring to it ran 101.2HP ATW with the quad Webber injection..

Yeah it is your engine Mick, funnily enough I am just cleaning the office and found it in the pile of VW paperwork almost at the exact timne someone asked what they were costing.
As for lower spec I was reffering to kads not webbers, 040 instead on 044 heads, and a few 2nd hand parts. But I am guessing Mick could tell more about it than what I know.

Rod Penrose is a good place to start..... good for price, time frames, construction, delivery and aftersales service..... from experience. Will cater to any budget. I have had engines by others in Brisbane and have been very disappointed.
Anyone else in Sydney, or Australia, I don't know.
Another place for working out combinations and specifications would be talking to "Dangerous" on the forum for both engines and gearboxes. But there are many other good sources of information from VW gurus on the forum too but they tend to fly under the radar a bit.👍
Research is so important, good luck and enjoy the ride...... 😁
From another post on the forum ......
Rod has certainly made performance vw engines alot more affordable, the 2165 I just finished cost under $5 1/2k fitted... prob makes about 120 hp (not sure if that is at the wheels)
also try talking to pete or richard at vforce, hell anyone who gets the porsche boys worried is going to know a thing or too. they are in sydney too.
