I missed it!!!!! I can only assume from the above post that they were talking about the fact that when VW were producing the cabriolet the only other manufacturer worldwide that also produced a four seater convertible was Rolls Royce.

You must have blinked... no it wasn't even that, he just started talking about Rolls and what the most one has paid for one? It was a bit wierd and irrelevant. Apparently though VW badges are on the top of the list as the most stolen...

rolls royce, they took the design for their cabriolets from VW, they were/ are the most water proof, the warmest, andeasiest to put up, the most important thing for rolls royce was that when the roof was up, the car looked like a hard top car not just a tarp thrown over a shopping trolley. remember Rolls Royce dont actually build cars, they assemble parts, they use the best parts and designs for all manufacturers, and put them in their own body shells, citreon suspension, volvo heaters, ford brakes,vw soft tops!!

Rolls Royce and Bentley were both owned by VW, but the monopolys commision ordered vw to sell something, they owned over 60% of the luxury car market, so they let BMW (their next door neighbours) have rolls royce, remember THE car to be seen in isn't the rolls royce, those are for football players and lottery winners. they couldn't let mercedes have Rolls Royce because VW and Mercedes are bed partners (look at the vw lt and Mercedes sprinter vans!!)

look closly at the new Bentley continental, the style lines are straight off the Karmann Ghia, which was italian designed!
and the Bentley Continental IS the car to be seen in!

err I dont think the guy was making any inference of heritage or ownership of different car companies. I think that it was just his only "interesting" anecdote of cars. Some Rolls sold for 7million pounds. In his defence, they are usually talking about teapots, clocks, spoons and things like that, cant be too harsh on him.

There would be plenty more interesting and avid VW collectors than that guy though. A walk through the Ermel household would take at least a 1 hour show.
