Hi All,
I am making an offer on a pretty complete, running Type 3 Wagon so I can get the IRS and Disk brake front end out of it for my Condor. The wagon body is in really good condition and the motor is good except for a knock on one cylinder. The interior is basically there and there are some new parts including the rear lights. In fact, this would be ab excellent starter for a restoration project.
The issue is, I'm in Horsham in western Victoria and get parts to and from here is very expensive. The beauty of this type 3 is that it is 20 minutes away and I can probably tow it home with no problems.
The question is, is there demand for 1973 Type 3 panels / body, motor and gearbox? Also, I won't need my earlier Type 3 front end and swingarm rear end, any demand for those?
Thanks in advance for any advice or thoughts.
Dino.
...pity to chop up a wagon!!! ...not much demand for late type3 panels...gearbopx will work in a irs conversion on a split

Dont chop it up mate, Im sure some one on here will take it off your hands.
Motor, GB and early Type3 front/rear end should go (depending on price of course), but don't "wreck" it, take what you need for the Condor, then Sims it if no-one responds. In my experience it's just after you junk it that someone says "Oh no, I really could have used that (insert part here) for my (insert model here)."
Try a post or link in the Type3 section, too.
This sort of thing happens all the time, and you may not find a lot of love for this behaviour (burn me now!) but if no-one else wants to save it ...?
Kit cars FTW!
A POSSE AD ESSE.
I live in my own little world, but it's okay, they know me here.
no one seems to be mad about late type 3's
but before you scrap it give it a shot selling it on here or elsewhere...
feel free to send me info n pics once you've ratted it for what ya want as I actually quite like lates - have a soft spot for puppies that have no home too!

I Don't know much about Condors, but I would suggest converting the swing Axle Rear Frame to IRS and then fitting that to your Condor, a much stronger and better design, less stress on the body of the Condor too!
Pity to see a late wagon bite the dust, but I do not see them having the same popularity burst as currenlty being enjoyed by Split Kombis in the near future.
Cheers,
David
Thank you all for your comments.
Calcool, in relation to the conversion of my existing swing axle to IRS, is there a kit to do this I could take to an engineer or is this a major piece of custom work? I'd probably prefer that option to wrecking the wagon.
Also, the guy with the wagon has a dsic brake front end for me. Can anyone suggest a good price to offer him? $100, $200. Obviously the callipers will need rebuilding and I'll probably get new discs anyway. But getting the stub axles is great.
If anyone is interested in buying the whole wagon, I can ask the guy if he would like to hear from intereted parties.
Thank you all, Dino.

Condor,
any chance the rear lid latch (the bit that attachs to the body) is and early type ? I have a late square with an early latch (its the one that doesn't look like a normal door receiver piece - sort of three pieces screwed together with a V type guide system for the door piece to go between).
Cheers

Hi Dino,
Kimm at Indian Automotive is probably a good place to start for an IRS kit, you will still need rear spring plates and control arms, plus drums, stubs and hubs to make the rear stud pattern the same as the front when you go to disc brakes.
Takes a neat bit of welding too!
I suggest if you don't know really know what you are capable of yourself take it to someone who can do it, otherwise you may spend a heap of money and still end up with an unfinished project.
Feel free to give me a call as I can assist with more advice.
Cheers,
David
