we used hydrochloric acid and industrial degreaser, than scrubbed it with a stiff broom.

Betta yet, if you have an industrial degreaser and have a 'feed in' Gurnee (high pressure water gun), that'll kick it in the teeth.

"I tear $20 note once, I tear it twice...then I say the magic words....

I'm sorry"

you can gurney it and bleach it and all sorts, but there will probably be some sort of mark left. you may have to pay them some "I'm sorry" money. if you've been good tenents, they'll get over it. just make sure the rest of the house is spick and span I guess.

but really, anyone who has a rental property with a driveway/garage has to expect this sort of thing to some extent. even new cars drop oil from time to time.

In my workshop I use a product called Greasolve,I think it is a Septone product. It is very easy to use wet the floor, sprinkle it on ,work it in with the broom and let stand for 10minutes or so,scrub with the broom again and wash off.But don't get it on your hands, eyes, feet etc as it is potent. At your new house use a tray or Castrol Mop( or Kitty litter) works well whilst the oil is wet. Good luck

just use petrol and some cat litter, it works a treat, sweep it around with a broom .

We were lucky, on our ingoing report we made sure we noted the (few) oil stains on the driveway. Now when we moved out there were a lot more, but the condtion report just said "oil stains" so they couldnt prove we'd made it worse 😂

If you hose any degreaser or acid into the gutter its illegal and you can cop an on the spot fine, and it really f***s up our waterways too. Also be careful that producst like acids might kill the lawn if you hose it off onto the lawn, and that'll be worse than the stains!

I don't think I'll be using acid of any sort

as i don't have any plastic overalls socks and shoes... lol

I use spray can foaming degreaser when the oil is wet

works OK... but the mark will always be there..

I'm wondering if I degrease it a few times then paint over it with concrete path paint...

Concrete being porus (I carnt spell) will absorb the oil so it will stain even if the surface is cleaned. Be wary of using Hydrochloric acid on concrete as this will make the concrete brittle and screw it up more than the oil and is only good for cleaning the surface anyway. Maybe if you get some old mats and put them over the stains and park over them it would be less obvious (you might even be seen as doing the right thing by having mats there😏).
Good luck

Take your sump plug out and empty the oil and sweep around ito all corners of the drive. hey presto its gone.

Seriously hyrocloric acid and saw dust or dirty, cat litter etc will shift the worst of it but also make the spot stand out try scrubbing with washing powder and $2 can of degreaser first. I've used an orange based oil spot remover before at the wifes grand parents place when I left a spot or two on there spotless drive. It was the only thing in the shed and it worked perfectly. I don't know where you can find it but try some serches first.

Best of luck

Using a high pressure washer will be detrimental to the concrete itself...

If You a high pressure setting a high pressure washer
it will of course take the top layer of concrete off
something You don't really want to happen..

I use foaming pressure pack degreaser which works well on car parts and engines but can never seen to get all the oil out of the concrete..

Barls I dont think it was the greasolve that ate your shoes! but I like the suggestion of parking the car on the top, I hadn't thought of that. Les

It was mentioned earlier, kitty litter is the go, best used when oil is wet but if you rub it in, crushing the pieces up with your feet, leave it for a couple of days then sweep it up, the powder can mask the stain until its washed away. You wont use a whole bag so you will have some to use at the new place.

I had a minor spill a few days ago while decanting the cola syrup with the gag inducing odour which was called 'oil' into containers for disposal. I grabbed the first things I saw after I finished pouring a few minutes later. Kero and paper towels.

I tipped a little kero on the area and put the paper towel on it with the intent of trying to wipe it up. To my surprise all of the oil was instantly sucked up into the towel. Must have really hated kero. No stain left whatsoever. If only it worked on well soaked in oil. Although I haven't tried.

I've been trying to clean up the oil spots to get some bond back because we have to move from this rental too. Although after my vans recent solo voyage through the driveway gate and into my other halfs car the oil is the least of my worries.
