There is the occasions where I have a smarty say to me "Why do you drive such a shoot box?" They are referring to my stock 1971 Beetle 1302. It is reasonable to assume it's market value would be somewhere around $4000'ish. I look at what car they are driving, and often it is a vehicle of a market value three or more times as much. When I reply
"I would not swap cars with you any day. I choose this car, I want this car. Does that help you understand why?"
It doesn't seem to help, they just pick on it more, and say it should be crushed etc.
NO!
their car may be more expensive, but it is not dearer (i dont mean the expensive money dear, i mean the lovey dear)
🙂
Right now I'd swap the buggy for a bloody pushbike, but when I sort it out real proper like, well there's no way.
I dream of a day when a chicken can cross a road without being asked for it's motive!
Just smile and nod, works for me 😵💫
Then again most people look at me and don't bother to even ask why.

fords and holdens are like bums........every one has one !!!
I like my rides !!👍
Where will their "expensive" car be in 30, 40, 50+ years.
Plastic junk that will be recycled back into oil for our cars to run on.
I bet that the repayments are way more than the expense of keeping old VW's going.
Tuned Type IV power - shaking out the rust.
many years ago i told my old man where to shove his new BMW because i'd rather travel in my matt black beetle anyday..............and that's exactly what i did for the once a week 250 km round trip each week after that incident.
lowered, one piece fiberglass front end, matt black, dual hot dogs, dreadlocks, Metallica or Soundgarden blasting and on the old pacific highway........felt like king of the road somedays🙄
Between my VW notch and my Harley Davidson and my wife, they all cost a freakin fortune but I love them to bits cos they each put a smile on my face when I take them for a spin.😏

I have had a offers for my Country Buggy and i have refused to sell it🙅The best laugh i had was at a set of traffic lights when two idiots in an old HQ Kingswood pulls up besides me they both look at the Country Buggy and start laghing at it untill i said to them that it was worth more and that it was only going to increase in value than what they were driving in.😂
Maybe I'll give Andy a call, but not till after the weekend. Love it when someone comments "bet that little bugger flys" I just look em in the eye and reply "does it what, had it up to 115 k's the other day" they always look kinda puzzled, can't figure out why.

I got both and I know what you mean.
I'd swap mine for a good race car, preferably a porsche
👍

What address do I send the pushbike too?
😁
What my garage isn't messy........Well chaos is a form of order isn't it?
The other night I had two kids laughing and making fun of me getting into my beetle (usual old putt putt jeering) but funny enough when I started it they shut up, went red faced and no more offers for a drag. 🙄😏

First I gota see a pic of the bike, second I'm gunna see what happens this weekend. Watch this space.

I've had more expensive cars, Jags, TRs (real one -a 4 and a 6 not the 7) a Range Rover, a BMW plus the odd jap car (we own a Delica at the moment as well) but I like VWs, I can generally fix VWs when they go wrong and I like the way there's no other car like them on the road. Actually thinking about it it's probably a security blanket sort of thing. I also like the way everybody waves at you in the buggy when you're on the beach and stops to chat. In other words No I wouldn't swap my dub for anything more expensive!
I hate it when non-VW lovers try to say "I'll give you $500 bucks for your Kombi" without realising how much they cost these days. I don't even bother to try to educate such losers.
My son is 12 and wants a Beetle desperately for his first car, and his mates are already putting crap on him wondering why he'd want one. He knows they're cool, so that's all that matters. 🙂

Heh, my daughter's 8 and want my notch for her first car. I can't wait to get it on the road first though, I wouldn't swap it for a modern car, I have my 3 cylinder shopping trolley for commuting, I want it for something that I want to drive.
72 Notch, 72 Beetle
new cars unlike old VWs just have no soul or character and are just to common
ill admit i have 2 late model mainstream cars for dailys
and i had to fit alloy wheels so i didnt loose them in car parks 😂
but i would rather drive my bug anyday i just dont cos i hate driving it on the farm especially being lowered with low profile tyres so it only gets to come out for shows
i have the mainstreamers more for the convenience of having cars i can get in and abuse with the mod cons like air con, power steering, airbags etc and the only maintaince they need is an oil change every 10,000kms
but i would still never part with my Lbug
ive parted with others cos 1 person can only have so many cars and as it is 3 regos a year is killing me with the under 30 greenslip premiums

Love it, ppl dont need cars that go 250kmh, we dont have autobahns yet.
Our 18 month old son will say "Mummy car" whenever he sees another Beetle. It warms the cockles of me heart I tells ya.
I would only swap my type 3 for another VW or maybe a Prosche. If somebody offered me a Karmann or a 356 for my fasty, I'd have to say yes. Wouldn't swap it for a modern vanilla car though.
Ain't nothin' like the wind in your hair.
the Kombi "wave" makes you feel special and makes any trip fun😉 and if it's a long trip and you get drowsy...just walk back and have a nap😵 after getting off the road of course!
oh off the road so thats where i went wrong terrable mess
👍👍😂🙅🥷😬🤓
yeah well i fell asleep at the wheel once at 70mph many years ago...havn't done that since i've had a kombi😂 so obviously it works for me👍
id swap all of my possesions for a mid eightys 930 slope nose. ugly but the best!
