69 beetle ignition wires:
Ok with the first three, i think.

Red and black - starter
Red - light switch
Black - 2nd postion on the fuse block

Grey ???? Is this used for the door buzzer?? Or is it a spare?? Can I just tape it up and leave it?

Cheers
Dave

You will have one that goes to coil and one that goes to everything else that turns off when you crank it over.

Can't remember the colours but it will go direct to coil througha fuse so when you crank coil gets power but power is taken from headlighst etc.

brad the "X" terminal that kills power when cranking is only on 71 and later vws
aussie 68-70 1500s only had the red power, black ignition and red/black start wire
does the grey wire look like a hack job?
most likely a piggy back someones added for a radio or something stupid
im pretty sure even US got the key left in warner buzzer after 70
my 70 certainly didnt but my 71 super had it its marked S on the ignition switch

mmm I have a 68 here with the cast housing that has the kill function on crank. So would have to disagree.

68 was an odd year and one of teh last that didn't have the black plu on the ignition switch, it could go either way.

The grey was soldered in the back of the switch like the others and had a "p" next to it. i have afew different wiring diagrams from 68 thru to 71 and none of them mention it. Anyways, all of the electrics are working without it.

thanks

ah ok P was a wierd one atleast on 70s bugs
i never worked out what it would have be for
it was live only when ignition was turned off
S powers up as soon as u push the key in for the key in warning buzzer
i use it as an accesories postion for my stereo so i cant leave it on but i dont need the ignition on to listen to it

if u leave the wire make sure its taped up real good or id just cut it off at the back of the ignition switch
