Ok,
here is the story so far. I have the opportunity to buy an early split(pre 60) and will most likely take it. The problem is it has no running gear at all. Now I have done heaps of reading on things like IRS conversions for the back and beam narrowing etc. Now I don't want to dump this van in the grass as I want to take it on long trips etc and I have a 1600 bay gbox at home with rear hubs, spring plates and trailing arms as well as bay disks for the front. Can I use these in the split? I just want to make the bus handle better and to stop the wheel flop that occurs with splits.

If not what are my options, I have heaps of bay parts at home (mainly late) and I would hate for them to go to waste.

advice? please

Thanks

Mega

hi

mate.

don;t quote me on it but from memory the only beam suitable that was bolt on was a 68 beam being bj and i think they were either wide 5 drums or disks.

didnt think you could simply put bay disks onto k/l spindles.

the rear sounds like given what you have an irs conversion is on the cards.

so can I still use the bus box or do I need to get a box from a superbug or type 3?

Are there any easy IRS conversion kits? I would prefer non weld but am open to all.

Also the 68-70 beam, is that a straight bolt in? or are mods required?

I would recomend Indians IRS conversion , wouldn't use the 1600 kombi box unless you want it to rev it's heads offas they have a 5.4 - 1 Diff and lastly yes the 68 beam will bolt straight in BUT good luck finding one .
We at Custom have seen another balljoint conversion in a splitty that was imported from the UK and we are currentley looking into making a kit up , so stay posted but you will require the splitty beam

Trust me it will be easier to find a splitty beam than a 68

My mate just called (and emailed) me and told me he has a complete rear hub to hub with SA gbox for a splitty. Can I mod this to make it more stable ie sway bar or something like that?
