I was taking my bug out this morning to the mechanic to have a clutch repair done on it. The bug is stored in the garage and has been having some work here and there, It has not been driven for 4 months only had to take it for a five minute drive to the mechanic and my worst nightmare happened I ran into the back of a bike who had run into the car in front of him. Now my poor bug is at a holding yard waiting to be looked at to see what they can do I smashed the front in on the bug I can't believe it happened peak hour traffic and here I am driving along smiling to myself enjoying the drive and thinking of how good its going to drive after the clutch is done and its now gone! devastated! I hope it can be fixed 😠
Sorry to hear of your misfortune emma3, i would feel same way! Hope it can be fixed up just like new!!

That sucks 🙁 If you post some pictures up somone might be able to tell you if it can be fixed.
Simon
have hope! a panel beater in my mates commercial complex in burleigh just had a yellow superbug from a car yard salesman come in after having a nasty front ender. It got repaired, drove out looking schmick and put up for sale in the next door show room. You wouldn't have known it happened. if it was in bumper to bumper traffic, and not a high speed crash, u should be alright. its just the front a little dinged in?
This one had the bonnet pushed back and up, and the spare wheel well creased in. It wasn't that bad to totally distort the whole body...
That poor biker didn't get hurt did he? Just gotta keep that following distance a bit larger 🙂 It happens though... i rear ended a week old mazda 3 about 8 months ago in bumper to bumper traffic... The sinking feeling is neva a nice experience. They got hard bumpers though, not even a scratch could be seen, the poor girl who owned the car was in tears though.

thankfully the guy is ok the bike went under the front of the bug he got taken to hospital but he rung me this afternoon to say he was ok the only thing i have killed is his love for riding the bike he says he wont be riding again so feel pretty bad for him.
I took some photos on my mobile but i don't know how to transfer them to the computer the bonnet was bent up and in but i am not sure how bad it will be
Hey babe, i'm so sorry to hear. I have my fingers crossed for you that you don't get stuffed around and your repair is easy a painless.

I feel your pain, I had my cab bashed practically a year ago today. I was insured with Shannons and they were pretty good. It's just a shame it happened at all, I hope it comes good in the end👍
Thanks everyone, I am insured with Shannons so hopefully it will go ok
1 hour before!!!
It actually looks a bit better than mine did. Just watch out when the repairers start sourcing 2nd hand parts, with mine they stuck on a 2nd hand rechromed front bumper that looked OK at first but inside the bumper it was as rusty as anything! I couldn't fault them on the panel work but had to wait 6 months to get parts for the front bumper alone. Plus the interior light on the rearview mirror went missing. I'm only saying this as your average man in the street just thinks it's just a beetle with the roof chopped off but certain parts are specific to cabriolets and can't just get pulled of the shelf.
That is so sad to see. Where did it happen? Simon at bodyworks unlimited did a lot of the restoration work on our 72 cab and it looks great. Ours was actually a salvage title and she looks like she just drove off the showroom floor now so there is hope there for you.
Yogie
it happened at gaythorne it got towed to a place in alderley so I am just waiting now to here what they say about it I have no idea on the process the guy that towed it said he had to take it there because the police had come to the scene
what happened to the bike rider? As a rider myself this is my first concern is that person as metal is easier to fix than blood and bone.
yeah lucky there was no injury to the bike rider
Very sad, but I reckon that will fix relatively easily. It will be little more than a 'tug' to straighten and a new bonnet and bumper
Pay your debts, CxxT
Yes, I don't believe there is a lot of damage
Luckily You hit the bike in the centre...lol
I'll have to go back to Your pics and see if the front bumper is USA specs or not...
No, its a standard 1302S bumper and brackets.. and bonnet and front valance .. front valance for air conditioning .. with vents may be hard to come by..
in Australia.. probably need new front guards. too
although they do look OK in the pic..
You could have tied the rego plate to the bumper and kept driving..... lol
make sure you get a german bumper and not Brazillian one
the German ones are much stonger too...
lol
You need to find out if there was any damage to the front strut supports....
Best of luck... now...

At least with Shannons you should be able to choose where you get it fixed !.
Start asking around for any well known guys who do body work !!
They might be interested in doing some Insurance claim work on a Veedub Cab, you never know. But I'd be asking for it to go somewhere that you know or has been recommended by someone.
The bike rider is ok, thats great. The car can be fixed.
Hope it all works out for you.

That is one beautiful Cab ... I am sure Shannon's will do the right thing by you. No joy when your pride and joy get squashed. I remember when I was in my '66 and was caught in the middle of a 4 car squeeze. Cried when the assessor tried to write it off because he didn't care ... (not Shannons insurance)
Hope all goes well.
Nasty😢
I had my first quote from the repair place that the tow truck driver said it had to go to they said $2300 to fix it! I am not sure what it cost for repairs but that price says dodgy quick job to me. I rung shannons and am having it taken to Brackley bodyworks today I am sure it will be well looked after there. It was left out in the open over the weekend in this big parking lot I had to have it moved i havent had the top repaced yet and it lets in the rain.
Shannons will tell you where to have it done as not all bodyshops are approved (if that's the right word?) by them. In Noosa there was only one place I could take mine to and it didn't matter that it was the other guys fault and his insurer, who had to pay for it, couldn't say otherwise.

I agree with Yogie. Simon takes pride in his work with VW's.
Hope all goes well with your repairs and glad everyone is ok.

Don't mean to hi-jack this thread but whereabouts is Simon? As I want to get some restoration work done on my cab sometime in the future and all the panel shops around here are just crash repairers and not interested in resto jobs.
Barry, try Rolly's in Rene st, found them vw friendly and happy to do quality repair, use german products too. Craig is the one to speak to.

Simon owns Bodyworks unlimited in Toongarra Road Leichhardt (near Ipswich). He owns volkswagens and usually has one or 2 being done at any one time. He knows them well and does an excellent job. Well worth the drive.

Surely the big thing about Shannons is that you have your choice of repairer?

Thanks Matt, I'll pop around there on my next day off, can't afford it at the mo' as I have to suck up to the wife big time first🙁 Jay, with Shannons they have 'Approved' repairers on their books, I suppose you could take it elsewhere but surely as they're basically putting their reputation on the line you'd go with their recommendation. Around Noosa there are bigger panel shops but that doesn't neccessarily mean better and as I don't make a habit of damaging my cars I don't often visit such shops to build up that sort of knowledge so I go with what they tell me.
Hello, i am a motor assessor myself and used to repair a lot worse vws than yours, everytime i get an old vw in to work i direct them to brackley bodyworks as well, he is cheap and does a good job so i wouldnt worry if i were you, cheers, steve

I'm really quite confused about this. I had my car repaired through Shannons earlier this year, and at no time did they suggest that I use a particular repairer. I have just had a look on their website, and there is also no mention of approved repairers - in fact from their website:
Shannons Car Insurance Shannons policies deliver Agreed Value, Your Choice of Repairer and Guaranteed Repairs as core benefits.

Shannons will let owners repair their own cars.
