Not sure whether to be outraged or dismissive.

Some people can't stand Beetles either for the look, the sound, the safety (or lack of) or other reasons.
There are, however, less sensible people like us who love them any way. The distinctiveness, the reliability, simplicity, the history and the iconic nature appeal to so many. And so many girls think they're cute! 🙂

Who cares what other people think, we love them, if they don't that just means more for us.
i had a bunch of blokes in the carpark at work laughing at my beetle just as i was leaving. they werent laughing when i left them in a cloud of tyre smoke 😂
some people simply assume beetles are P.O.S's, leave them to it i say, ignorance is bliss so i hear
hands down winner yeesh
Many of the comments on the list confirm Our thoughts on the beetle...
How come the only car with running boards
was still made in 1976 ?? and later...

I dream of a day when a chicken can cross a road without being asked for it's motive!
What about the Chrysler Centura - now theres a gem!!!!!
meh! they're just jealous 😉
just remember that its a British webpage...🙄
I agree with Lee, beetle's are iconic, people recognise and love them, in fact its rare that you drive a beetle far without someone calling out when you drive past or stopping you to have a chat about their old VW, etc.
What my garage isn't messy........Well chaos is a form of order isn't it?
I believe the beetle was futuistic in style and no one wanted to copy the style....
until now
Keeping it real !
you have to use your imagination
Keeping it real !
Some people think my bull terrier's ugly as well. She's beautiful and so's my car and I don't give a sh*t what anyone else thinks! These are probably the same sort of people who turned their noses up at it (the beetle, not my dog!) after the war before it became the best selling car ever🤪
I don't believe the beetle record will ever be broken...
Joel..
what in the world is that???
Beauty - We all think differently...
The most ugliest car in the USA was the EDSEL...
and it was a sales disaster..
then there is Unusual - Different - Unorthodox -
sound familiar ?? the BEETLE ..
the 411-412 VW will probably end up on that list and I love the look of the VW 412...

PS: the Centura was ... errrr.... an Aussie icon... ?? no..

Heh heh, that's funny.
The fact they reckon a Reliant Robin is better looking than a Beetle proves they're smoking some pretty high grade crack !!!

if i didnt know any better i would have said it was a Jeremy Clarkson hate list just missing rear engined Porsches
Lee that was number 1 Pontiac Aztec
followed closely behind in 2nd by the Fiat Multipla
apperently the Fiat looked to be the winner originally cos noone had even heard of an Aztec but once ppl started gooogling it and saw how ugly it was the rest was history
Read somewhere that the beetle had been outsold by the Toyota Corolla, but then if you named every Toyota ever made as a Corolla you would win by an even greater margin, that would be just as relevant, lets face it the original Corolla looks nothing like the latest, in shape or size and the drive train has changed completely so there is no way the two cars can be compared. Go the Krouties.

Heh. Yeah. My dad used to have an orange one.
Personally i think the beetles are beautiful. Nothing appeals to me more like a purely engineered design. Everything has a function, sometimes two. And nothing was wasted.
If at first you don't succeed. Build, build again.

Lee,
The Toyota Corolla became the best seller in 1997, though the car is vastly different to the original.(only the name has stayed the same)
The Golf outsold the Beetle in 2002, at this stage, not too far removed from the original design, although you could say the Beetle remained closer to it's original concept than both of these throughout it's (air cooled) production lifespan.
The Centura was a Chrysler France design that they tried in Aus in the dying days, They were a nice car except (like all Chrysler/Valiants) they had the handling of a block of flats. They were quite luxurious compared to what was on offer in Aus in the day and they went like the clappers with their big hemi six.
Regards,
Matt.
At least they got something right in that, the Karmann Ghia is in the top 100 most beautiful cars. Mind you when you go through the lists you realise personal bias comes into the choice big time. Just because a car carries a Ferrari badge doesn't really make it beautiful. I think a lot of the people who voted must have sh*t in their eyes!!
I think a stock beetle is an ugly looking car. Modified they look good, but stock with stock suspension height and little skinny tyres I think they look out of proportion.

i couldnt agree more with what Wes said
whilst i really do appreciate a well kept stocker bug be it an oval or an Lbug i think stock is just to bleh
I don't entirely agree with Wes but everyone's entitled to their own opinions but after having just walked through the resorts carparks a moment ago I realised that there is something much worse than ugly!! And that is 'Boring!'. The carpark's full at the moment but you can't tell a Ford from a Holden from a Toyota from a Mitsubishi even to a Subaru. Not only that they're all silver (don't ask me why?). My cabriolet was brought over from the States by my sister and she owned for quite some years but then (luckily for me!) she got pregnant and she required a four door car, she got a Toyota Corolla. Now she says when she goes shopping she has to spend ages checking almost every cars number plates to find hers and how things were so much simpler when she had the beetle. Ugly or not I love 'em, hated them at first but now wouldn't be without one. BTW I'd have a Daimler Dart (SP250) which is in the top most ugly over a lot of the cars in the top most beautiful!
Even traditional rivals Commodores and Falcons look very similar, and uninspiring, these days. When I had my old yellow/orange Beetle I had no trouble finding it in a car park and friends and family always knew when I was near 🙂
And how's this for different. This rare '30s/'40s Sunbeam Talbot which I see parked on my street regularly.

I must have a driveway full of ugly if that list is anything to go by. Two no.35's and a no. 10 (PT Cruiser). Most of those polls are ridiculous and don't really reflect a cars true value. VW must have done something right to sell 21 million of them.
