Hi guys, I have a Turbo kit set up for my beetle and i am thinking of replicating a few more as its a pretty straight forward system. No internal modifications needed.
Uses a Blowthrough carb ( pref weber 32/34 or 32/36 for 1916+ )
Small diesel turbos ( or t28 etc for 1916xx + )
top mount intercooler off wrx or equiv.
and all appropriate piping.
I've got my setup in process for the 1916 i have and thought if anyone else was interested to let me know and ill have a few more sets made up.
manifolds and piping come to roughly $800-1000. All have expansion joints, slip piping, flanges and clamps
Turbos can be sourced for $100-400 etc
intercooler 150-200 bux
carb 600 ( found on mkI golfs etc )

Will look like this only in stainless.
Let me know if anyones interested and i will get a few more kits made up currently at 800-1000 ex carb, turbo, i/c.

that old bug of Daves ran a proper turbo DMTT weber but good luck trying to find one of them
32/36 progs are a shitty enough carb in NA letalone trying to turbo them
best carb for the job would be a DRLA
my old turbo engine was a similar setup but used a turbo solex 32DIS
u may find an external oil cooler helps
stock oil cooler can struggle with the turbo oil return temps

are u mounting the turbo next to the gearbox?
it can be hard to get it to drain back when there down fairly low unless u use a semi auto oil pump

Do you have any more photos from under the car, turbo positioning, I/C placement etc

Thanks, Kevin
I thought rebuilding a VW would be cheap - Shit I was wrong, just don't let the wife know !!!!

Ditto that wouldn't mind seeing shots from under the car re the header and turbo position.
I wouldn't need the whole kit as I'm blowing through dual IDF's but might want a header if you will do that on its own. If so let me know detiails like size etc and how much.

Is that a pic of Shimo's old SA bug?.... Dave's Oval was candy red from memory... The carb in that pic is the DMTT carb... Tough to source these days... Didn't know there was mods for 32/36 progressive Weber... I'd suggest you look to T25 or T28's for the conversion... Forget about diesel turbo's, have a look around for T25 or T28 turbo's of the Pulsar/EXA/180SX range of turbos for basically stock engines... Or maybe nice little TDO4 of the Subi's... Rebuild kits are cheap and they are plentiful... Just keep you boost below 7psi with HD single valve springs... Any more than that and you'll be needing HD Duals!!!
Be interesting to see how you go with it...

hi mate, yes that would be daves old bug.

the system i am setting up has a turbo ready 32/36 running off into a garrett t28 from a gtr skyline, should be quick low spooling.

I will get some more pics up once i have mine completed. Thanks for your replies guys.

I will get some prices and sizes for headers etc shortly.
