This happens almost everytime im out driving my bug. Other drivers seem to always want to overtake me at high speeds when im hitting 70kms. Tailgating is another problem i always seem to have.
For some reason people just wanna outrun a beetle, or overtake a beetle or tailgate a beetle. WHY?
Any others having the same problem?

They are usually the same morons who see a beetle approaching and decide to pull out because beetles are old and slow.
It isn't limited to beetles either.🤪
Funnily enough, I never had anyone tailgate me when I was driving my XM Falcon. The huge chrome bumper bar was a great disincentive for morons driving their crappy plastic car.😀 Even in a parking lot, people would give it a wide berth and suspicious looks in case my parking & driving skills were as lacking as theirs...🙄

We used to love it when they would do it to us in the bay kombi. They would tailgate you then overtake you because to them you are a slow old kombi, little did they know he had a Subi EJ20 in him, so then it was our turn to tailgate and overtake them! Loved the look on their faces when you would fly past them. Dickheads!

😂Yes, I find that too! they just cant stand to be out done by a bug. funny thing is, i allways catch up at the next set of lights!!

I actually don't mind it as much cause all the traffic tries to avoid you and the roads suddenly seem less congested.
But still taking off at the lights quickly and losing them is still fun 😂

Find the exact same here, always find people overtaking me at stupid speeds even when I'm doing the speed limit.
Just last week I was cruising along the foreshore here, speed bumps all along it to keep the speeds down, and a limit of 50.
Was doing 50, had a old maroon commodore (VLish) sitting up my arse, then he decides he'll try overtake me in the 50m space between the speedbump we just went over and the next one. On a two lane road.
It's a VW thing, not just beetle.
Even in my big Caravelle, that is more than capable of freeway speed, people will red line their little ricers to get around me.
I was pulled up for a breath test on the F3 / Doylson link road, & the copper reckoned I was keen running a bug on thre freeway.
I told him I actually assisted in the free flow of traffic. Nothing motivates people like a VW coming around them.
Well my friends are gone & my hair is grey, I ache in the places where I used to play.

I've found that since I put L/P plate holders on my daily bug everyone wants to tailgate me. Last year when we went to Canberra i was doing 120 in a 110 zone, everyone had to overtake me.

I find people doing all kinds of crazy manoeuvres to overtake me when I'm already at or above the speed limit - and often in heavy traffic where there's nowhere to go anyway!
Another pet peeve are the drivers who leave me no space for even the tiniest rollback on a steep hillstart, despite the fact that I have a mean looking metal bumper that will install a letterbox opening in their crappy plastic one.
Sydney drivers are terrible.

i had one today when i was driving chaos that knew her lane was ending ahead. i was sitting right next to her and she just flicked the blinker on and starting merging and then had the hide to blast me with her horn and start abusing me. didnt do her much good though.

I rest comfortably knowing how much fuel / $ they wasted running their V8 at high RPM to get 1 or 2 cars ahead in the traffic jam. FOOLS. That said, they raise demand and make my fuel price higher so I curse them anyway.
Hopefully I have all this to look forward to if I get my hands on a Beetle! I know that everyone wanted to overtake us back in the UK when we had a camper van (hmm, you call them kombis here don't you? Excuse my non-aussie terminology, I can't promise it won't happen again!) but then that might have been because it was really slow... We were the masters of forming a very long queue behind us on narrow country roads! Quite embarrassing really...

It's not just VWs either I get the same thing in the Daihatsu Sirion shopping trolley, they just don't respect the 3 cylinders of raw power. I have a theory about idiots and commodores something along the lines of not all commodore drivers are idiots but most idiots drive....
