Hi,
I recently picked up a Beetle that someone has done a half-arsed job of re-engining.
The carby was sitting separate to the motor, so I'm not even sure that it's compatible.
The manifold is a single port and the throat diameter is 34mm. The carby is a Solex PICT34-5. Now it makes sense to me that given the diameters match, the carby is ok.
My confusion arises because I was also told that a 34 is not really compatible with a single port manifold - or at least that's what I think I was told...I dunno.
Can anyone set me straight?

does the single port manifold go into alloy end sections that bolt to the cyclinder heads or is the mainfold the same all the way down ( single ) to the heads on the side of engine ???

Can you post a pic ???
I read it on FACEBOOK so it must be true

I'm pretty sure that the manifold runs straight to the heads as a single pipe. I can post a pic later if you need me to be sure that I'm sure.

A Golf, huh? Great!

I still haven't looked closely enough, but the number on the block is AS084215 - can you tell from this?

Yeah, I think so. I'll post some photos after I get home.
There is another stamp on the block but I can't exactly recall what it was.

geez thats a bitsa engine u got there
but it would be a 1600

fanshroud is from a 64-65 40hp 1200 so it wont have the original doghouse oil cooler which is fine with sinlge port heads

hi speed conversions was a WA based firm from eons ago if memory serves

carb u got will work on it
a 30pict2 from a 1500 would be my carb of choice for it tho

Hey,
Thanks for the advice. I happen to have a 30PICT2 now which is a bit grubby so I will set about cleaning it up.
Apart from putting a standard kit through it, should I be doing anything else?
Thanks again!
