Im after an original steering wheel complete with horn ring, etc. for my US /Euro '67.

Im not sure if the spline on my steering column differs from Aussie Beetles.

Can any one help with what will fit and what wont ?

I have looked on the Samba, and all the US spec '67 steering wheels look the same as 1500 beetle ones.

Thanks,

Wayne.

the wheel splines should be the same as the 1968 German beetle which I have.
All autosticks were made in germany -

I have fitted a later model plastic collapsable steering wheel to My beetle so yours should be the common splined wheel... My wheel is painted with undercoat...

You have one unique Beetle there... One year Only -
and these weren't sold in Australia... as you know..

so, I believe any of the common type of steering wheel from late 60s early 70s should all fit...

Anyone have a drivers side door handle for one of these, the catch pin at the inside of the button on mine is cactus. Also looking for the stainless skinned bonnet handle(early shape, stainless skinned, not chromed pot metal.).

I wonder if those 1967 round button used on 1967 Model beetles would fit a 1968 beetle...??

they are very expensive NOS...

and they do weigh a bit when using air freight...$$$$$

1967 was a big model year for beetle sales...
they are very common in the US...

the steering wheel will either be same as a 1968 or an aussie 1967...

I have My 68 wheel here but can't find My calipers to measure the splines...

The good news is I found a steering wheel that fits. Whilst it isnt perfect, the price was right....... $2.00. Yep you read right, the entry fee to Pick N Payless in Blacktown Sydney. When I showed the cashier the steering wheel to pay for it, he replied "Thanks for coming see you later". You cant really argue with that.

The wheel is a bit beaten up and cracked around the centre where the horn ring fits. I didnt have too much hope for it actually, as it had a wrap around cover on it that I didnt remove until I got home. Under the cover were about 2-3 layers of duct tape, then part of another cover. After removing all the tape and covers, I was surprised the wheel itself was in decent enough condition to use until I track down something better. I now know what fits, I like the way the car drives with the new much larger diameter Original wheel, and all for a measly $2.00 and a return trip to Blacktown.

Costa,
the wheel itself is fantastic. Unfortunately it has aged / worn badly around the centre with quite a few large chips missing. Definitely want a better one long term.

Wayne.
