Any one use these puppies??

http://www.cbperformance.com/catalog.asp?ProductID=1470

I am going to Chicago in January and am thinking of up grading the heads on my motor

I have a "stock" 1916 built by Peter Shelley
I believe it has standard 040 heads at the moment with a 22/62 cam - believe this is the same as Stans base motor cam??
It runs a 34Pict re-jetted and a SS vervion of the OEM VW header

I could get the heads shipped to Chicago and carry the heads home

For $600 i would have some decent heads

I "think" i have a problem at the moment anyway as #3 has a triangular carbon mark on the spark plug.
Guessing this is from a cracked head??
Doesnt seem down on power - and #3 is still firing, so......

Hey Barry have u got any specs on them handy?

reason i ask is i was over talking to Greg who runs Jax heads the other day about putting some bigger valves in mine and doing some more porting

he showed me some heads he built for a customer that changed their mind
they were similar to what i wanted and he wanted to sell them cheap so i just wanna see how it compares cos 9 times outta 10 even after o/s freight costs ur still in front

cheers

- never mind just saw the link
id wave good bye to ur 34pict if u get them

I am pretty sure you will still need to do port and chamber work on those.

I asked about these heads before. As Dave says they will need porting as they are pretty much standard heads with bigger valves.

So you reckon standard 043's would be a better choice??

I got two sets of these. Both sets of heads are identical with stainless steel valves, single valve springs.

One set is on a 1776 stocker with PICT34 single carb and the other set is on a 1916 with an Engel 100 cam and twin Kadrons.

For pretty much stock heads that allow better breathing without being ported etc, you wouldnt get a better head. I love mine. The castings are robust with plenty of material if you feel the need to grind the shit out of them. I got no issues with hot spots or plugs. They flow pretty good right out of the box. Theyre just good value for money in my book.

How are they better breathing? Do they have different shaped ports etc? Any published figures? Might be good for a 'budget' upgrade under a set of Kaddies..?

Bizarre.

Yes I just bolted em on.

VW Cool.

I dont have any figures. I reckon the maker/sellers would though. I had advice from Rod Penrose who has used them in the past for street engines. Nothing special about the combustion chambers although I am trying to remember if they are slightly wedged. Dont remember for sure. But to all intents and purposes, they are a stock head. I am using a stock cam/single carb on one engine and twin kads/
Engel 100 on the other engine. The twin has a set of 1960"s Genie extractors with a custom glass pack and I have no probs running it to the rev limiter in 1/2/3 gear. Thats 5400rpm on the road. The 1776 will easily go the rev limiter which is 4800rpm on the road no probs also. Probably what I am trying to say is that these are not a hot shot comp head but they are a definite bolt on improvement, specially if you are going to do twins, a cam etc. The quality is first class. I reckon at $600 a pair they are good value for money. Both my engines were built for torque not top speed.

yeah cool, for $600 they can be 'stock' but - with respect - anything less than 6000rpm will not tax the intake system of most engines

Complete heads ie with valves - US $ prices per head
Stock $145
Los Banditos 94's $200
044's 94's $260

Dont think the extra $60US a head is worth it
But for the $55 a head over stock i get them cut to 94's plus a few extra goodies like
* 14mm long reach spark plug threads,
* Racing Valve Guides, and Valve Seats,
* HiTec SUPERGRIP S/S Single Groove 21-4N Valves with Stelite tips,
* Hi-Rev Valve Springs,
* Chromoly Retainers,
* Billet Steel Carbon Nitreated 7 Degree Valve Locks - 🤓.

In other words a little bit extra $$ sounds ok
Just dont think i need 044's

Hi Barry,

Stan uses the 37/68 cam in his base 1916 motors. The 22/62 cam is one of his grinds, most typically used in Aircraft 1916's where power needs to be developed at a lower rev range. This cam is also ideal for smaller motors requiring some added poke !
