Okie doke, I'll do my best to explain what I'm after, there are two "horns" projecting off the rear of the pan, these hold what in my repair manual is refered to as a "frame member" this is held to the horns with two large bolts (when I took the bolts out I had to spread the horns apart to line them up with the threads to get the bolts back in, that seemed a bit strange), what I need to know is the size, thread, pitch or whatever of these bolts as I intend to replace them with a threaded rod and nut instead of the bolt, that way I can let the threaded rod extend past the new nut so that I can fit a bracket to them to hold a tow bar.
Greatfull for any help.
Thanks
Don

I don't know if you can buy High Tensile threaded rod with that thread...

I'm trying to remember whether it was a fine thread...
naturally metric...

maybe some of the large metal suppliers... or engineering shops...
or You could buy a longer HT bolt and cut the head off...

Yeah, the long bolt will be the go I reckon, just don't want to take them out again till I can do the job final, looks like I may have to though.😢

Done that, so for you people who keep a record of these things (and I think I will start mine now) the thread is 18m 1.5 pitch, now try getting them at short notice, it's not guna happen.

most tow bars go onto the trosion housing not the frame horn bolts.

If you must do it that way though then consider making a bracket and bolting it on with teh factory bolts and then connecting the towbar to that.

trouble is it's not a beetle, it's a kalita buggy and I doubt that one for a beetle will fit, if you know otherwise let me know.

How did you go with the threaded rod/long bolts? I'm at Albury untill the weekend but may have some 4140 at home and could cut the thread for you if needed. Let me know.

Thanks for the offer 1500S, looks like I have it sorted but will have to wait a cupla days, Have been chewing over this problem for about 3 months now (I don't rush into many things, though I did rush into buying the little motor bike trailer before I even figured out if a bar could be fitted), a supplier we use at work told me he can get what I need but will have to track the gear down in the next few days. Thanks anyway. I have another question in a new post tho.
