Not quite.

There were 21 issues of Australian VW Power published between 1988 and 1992, so the new issue of VWMA equals the record.

The NEXT issue (#22) will be the new record holder - for professional Australian VW magazines, anyway.

Australian VW club magazines have been going for much longer. Club Veedub Sydney's Zeitchrift has been going since Feb 1985, so that makes about 288 issues. This won't be the record though, as the VW clubs of Victoria, SA and WA have been around much longer - since 1954 or 1955. I don't know if their magazines have had the same name all the way along.

The NSW VW club magazine was 'The Wagoneer' for many years but it ceased quite a while ago (1990s?) when that club could no longer support it.

Hey Guys and Gals,

Some subscribers may experience a slight delay in receiving their magazines due to the Australia Day Public holiday, but they should all arrive this week. Not too sure how the floods in North Qld will affect things, but if you are a tropical subscriber let me know how things pan out with delivery.

Cheers
Craig

Another fantastic magazine Craig.

Oops - I found one serious mistake!

In the article about the Dakar 2009 you write, in the third paragraph, "Not only is this Dakar the first win for Volkswagen...."

Not true. Volkswagen also won the 1980 Dakar, when the Swedish driver Freddy Kottulinsky and his German co-driver Gerhard Loffelmann won in a Volkswagen Iltis. Not only that, but another Iltis driven by Frenchman Patrick Zaniroli finished second. So VW finished 1-2 in 1980, just as they did in 2009. The winning VW Iltis can be seen today in the Wolfsburg museum.

You can read an article about the 1980 VW winners congratulating the 2009 winners at: http://www.321ignitionmag.com/news/815/DAKAR-1980-Champions-congratulate-VW

I am glad you post magazine updates as some of us have to drive 45 mins to find an issue at a newsagent.

I think I need a subscription!

Where do I go on the net to get one?

Subs can be found in the back of each issue.

An Iltis!? Geez Phil, can we stump you with something VW you don't know? Mmmm, probably not. The correction will go in the next issue, thanks.

Cheers
Craig

No worries Craig, glad to help! There will be a six-page article on the Dakar 2009 in the Feb issue of Zeitschrift, to be posted this week.

The Iltis was a nice little machine, made from 1978-1988. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volkswagen_Iltis

Obviously they were never sold in Australia, but they are still reasonably easy to find on the second-hand market in Europe. I did hear that Steve Muller brought one out here a little while ago - that would make a great story for a future issue.
