Arrggh - what a mess, this morning i filled my tank [ 54' under bonnet ] but as i was putting the nozzle into the tank - some petrol poured out all over the top of it and its "eaten" all the black paint off, i wiped it off and the paint just came off with it leaving my tank a complete mess with smudged paint and bare metal everywhere!

What should i do? Sand all the paint off and repaint obviously - but repaint with what? is there a "petrol proof paint" on the market?

has this happened to anyone else?

luckily I have a fuel filler...

I'm not sure what I sprayed My tank with..
engine enamel??
chassis black??

car enamel or whatever used on cars
it doesn't come off...
although its always recommended to flush any petrol
off paintwork ASAP...

it may also depend on how long its been painted...

think on the bright side, at least you know just how to strip the old paint off with minimal work.
