Not really
Your torsion bars have lost their spring

You need to reset them - and replace the shot bushings while you are at it

Not a huge job
But yu would want some one who has done it before watching over you

at the moment the rear muffler is about 60mm of the ground, we have a lot of spoon drains around here!!!!

But for a very simple solution, some brands of shocks will have the rear sitting higher than others.

I put a set of KYBs in my 68 and the rear end was forever after that much too high for my liking.

Hi Matt
You can adjust the rear torsion bars up or down...
there are two sets of splines you can adjust on either side

or Gas Shock absorbers can push the rear up also...
Oil shocks don't change the ride of a car but gas pressurised shocks can push the rear up..

so, it will cost you nothing to raise the rear torsion bars
yourself... I've never done this but many beetle owners have... the rear torsion bars [round] can lose their tension over the years..

check out : http://www.vw-resource.com/
Rob and Daves shade tree mechanics site...
I think they have done this...

cheers
