I am getting my 71 Super Beetle hoodlined and we are DIY removing all the windows (except the doors) and rubbers (they will no longer be needed) and then installing them in once it has been hoodlined. I currently have cal look rubbers and will be replacing them with standard rubbers with the chrome trim.
This is all new to us and I need some advice or tips on removing and installing the windows safely so my daily driver can get back on the road ASAP.
Are there any tools I should be using?
When installing, should the rubber go in first?
I hope you can help me out in anyway possible.
Mandy

you will have to put the chrome trim in the rubber first(try not to swear too much as this is a real nightmare)also dont lose your temper and throw them as they will bend🙂, you will need a piece of thin rope to shove in the rubber connected to the glass and slide it in bottom first and hold glass in while someone pulls the rope slowly tapping glass in with your hand.hard to explian, you should get someone to show you really

when your removing the glass get a sharp knife and cut the rubbers rather than trying to push the glass out so you dont smash the galss

when installing the glass make sure all thew trim is sitting correctly and not layered on the body work more than one thickness otherwise the rubber wont sit in the hole corrrectly

make sure you clean the old glue and gunk of the glass before fitting the rubber to the glass

use a tape measure and put a center line on the glass so as to align the join in the rubber otherwise if its in a corner it looks crap

fit the rubber to the glass on the correct side

then fit the chrome strip to the rubber making sure its sitting in the groove and teh join is in the center etc etc

then fit the string to the rubber and get some help to instal

use pleanty of liquid soap sprayed onto rubber and onto the body work window hole

Hi Mandy,

all ive ever done is on the inside at one corner get a blade screwdriver and just lift part of the rubber lip and push the glass out only a tiny bit it will start to jump over the body ridge thing that holds it in

alot easier than cutting it and the rubber can be re-used if need be
