Timing in more ways than one, it's gunna b ready in time for Hawks Nest trip, so onto the real question, I've got a timing light, do i hear gasps of "you lucky bastard", yes I have, but I have no idea where to clip the conections, spose I could figure it out but I like to ask, the bottom pully is one of those round ones, not square, with all the degree thingie marks on it, I know the spot to line up with is the joint in the case (it is isn't it?), and I have checked out other posts for the best advance retard spot, so where do I connect the light. 🤓
I dream of a day when a chicken can cross a road without being asked for it's motive!

the red lead goes to the + terminal on the coil 12v +
the -- lead goes to any earth - metal part
onto fuel pump - carby base bolt etc..

the clip goes over the No1 spark plug lead..
most clips show which was to place it onto the spark plug wire.... [spark plug this side]

thats how I connect My 2 timing lamps up...

cheers

If You are using a 009 distributor
You need to set the timing at around 28 dgrees BTDC
at revs above 3000rpm

with the spark plug lead attached to the number one cylinder spark plug lead..

the full info should be also on Rob and Daves website...

cheers

I have one of those good timing lights!
But it doesn't work.

Also have one of those crap ones. Ie the inline ones. I put a female bullet connector on the end of one of the cables so I could jam it on to a sparkplug.

28btdc seems to be pretty much the rule with VW dissys. Are there any where it is dirrerent?
If at first you don't succeed. Build, build again.
