Hey All, I have a leak on one of my carbs.

The petrol hose slots onto the brass fitting at the top of the carb.
This brass fitting is loose, in fact, you can pull it out, which I did accidentally when testing the connection. And not using much force either.

so.. is there a way I can fix this loose brass connector?

Thanks in advance.

Forget temporory fixes such as JB Weld! The only way to fix this problem on our old VWs is to fit screwed in fittings. The hole where the original 6mm dia. brass tube was can be tapped M7 x 1 thread and brass fittings made to screw in. A permanent fix which can never give a leak problem! If there's none of the VW group in Brisbane area who can help you out, give me a yell and maybe I can help with the fittings.

Added pic of the fitting. All of 5 min on a lathe from 8 mm hex brass. M7 x 1 thread which is standard. The permanent fix for all VW aircooled engines for prevention of petrol fires in engine bay from loose carb and fuel pump fittings! If there's a choice between glueing and screwing I'll choose screwing any day! 😂

Thanks Dallas!, well ive done the deed and I thought I might stick up a little info on how I did it.

Ok, here are your tools for the job:

Air Duster, Instant Gasket, Flat head screwdriver, Tap holder, Tap M7x1.0, 7mm, 8mm and 14mm spanners.

First remove the carb from he car then remove the top section, you will need the screwdriver and a spanner for this.

Here you see the top section of the carb ready for tapping:

Remove the brass thingo from inside the carb using the 14mm spanner:

Tap out the hole now, keep is centred and go slow...
Here is the finished thread. Lovely.

Use the air duster now to blow out any metal filing from inside the new thread and also from the inside of the carb casting.

And test fit, here you go:

Remove the new fitting again, slash on a little instant gasket (a fuel resistant one) leave for a few seconds, then screw it all back together.

Done, go have a nice cup of tea!

Hope this helps someone else out down the track.

BIG Thanks to Dallas on this one! Thanks Mate.
