All well and good, but chances of it coming here if VW Australia can't even see a market for a Golf variant????? Let me see now, do peopel buy a Subie Impreza wagon, Holden Adventura, Nissan M35 etc etc??? Nah, no market for them, they must all be illusions!! Morons!

VW has a very strong Chinese presence. All taxis in Beijing are old model Passats and other VW variants. No doubt this one is possibly purpose built for the Chinese market.

VW did display a Golf station wagon at the 2007 Sydney Motor Show (it got a lot of interest), but nothing has come of it since. I looked at the VIN when I was there - it was made in Mexico, where VW also makes Golfs and Jettas.

Yes this Chinese-designed and built Shanghai Passat Lingyu is an interesting variation on the Passat theme. The shape of the roof, and the C-pillar, looks the same as the previous model Euro Passat, as sold here. I agree, those tail-lights look very Lexus to me too. I think the nose is the best part.

VW's Chinese operations are strange. There are TWO VW operations there - Shanghai VW and FAW VW. Both of them make different VW models, and different variations of the same VW models. Not sure how that works, but yes VWs are everywhere in China; I think they are the market-leader there.

The booted version of the previous model of Polo, the VW Polo Classic, was made in China and was sold in Australia for a couple of years from 2004. It was the first ever Chinese-made car - of any brand - to be sold in Australia. http://autoweb.com.au/cms/A_102357/newsarticle.html
