Hi Sydney people, on the easter holidays i am taking my son Seth to the powerhouse musuem for the star wars exhibition, my question is whats the best way to get to the museum from Sydney airport. I'll be killing two birds with one stone, my sons first time flying and the Star Wars exhibition, he's excited like you wouldn't believe. Also after musuem want to walk round the harbour and see the opera house etc. Thanks for any advice.

Damo.

Hi

You can catch a train from the airport to Central station, thats about the closet station to the Powerhouse. The airport link is privately owned so they know how charge, do a comparison between cabs, shuttle bus etc

You can buy a day ticket on the red explorer buses, but if your up to it, its only a short walk through China town (and the Chinese Gardens) to Darling Harbour (lots of cool stuff here) and then you can jump on a ferry around to Circular Quay which is right near the Opera House.

You can get on just about any train station to return to the airport, you need the East Hills line via the airport.

Would drop in to say hello but I will be on a road trip with my son.

Steve

Yes the rail line from the airport is a bit pricey but probably the best option.

I would get on the train at the domestic terminal, and get off at Central. Walk up to the country platform concourse (Platforms 1-15) and then catch the tram to Darling Harbour. The track goes along the old goods line, right beside the Powerhouse Museum. Get off the tram at Convention Centre and follow the signs to the Powerhouse Museum.

After you finish at the Powerhouse (it's easy to spend all day in there), there is plenty to see and do at Darling Harbour. If you want to go back into the city, catch the Monorail. It gives a great view of the city and attractions from above street level. It doesn't go to Circular Quay though, so you'll have to get off the City Centre monorail stop, and walk down Pitt St (follow the mall and keep going).

To get back to the airport, just get on the train at Circular Quay, or any other city circle station, and get on an airport line train.

Dont think I can add anymore than what Phil and Steve have said. Your choice really is whether after your visit to Powerhouse, you want to go on monorail and walk down Pitt St to Quay or just pop on the ferry at darling harbour to Circular quay. Both are good options. Could even do the full circle on monorail and then get ferry

you rounded that very well phil,Damo I hope you and your son enjoy the big city. I always enjoy going into darling harbour or the maritime museum ( the boys growl like buggery),but even a trip across the bridge on the train is great, you really need a month to see some of Sydney. Cheers les

If they dont have one in brisbane, kids love the imax theatre at darling harbour. Screen is massive, 5 stories or something, plus 3D.

Don't know if you've checked out this website, but it kind of plans how to get somewhere by various public transport means, and links up times and different options, I found it when I put my type 3 in for service at Andrew Dodd. Found it useful.
