If you came to the VW Nationals last year, you might remember we had a big TV set up next to the Club Veedub stand, playing old VW ads, films and clips all day. People seemed to enjoy it.

I am trying to organise another one this year - something around 100cm would be good. The place I hired it from last year now wants $460 (up from $250 last year), plus a $500 refundable deposit.

I tried phoning Radio Rentals etc but they want about the same.

Anyone have any ideas on where we could borrow a big TV for the VW Nationals? Pick up on Friday and return on Monday? Would need RCA inputs for a DVD/Playstation input.

car forums. where a lot of peoples good intentions end up taking a good old car off the road forever never ever to see the road again. 🥲

Thanks Ian, what a good idea.

There's a JB Hi Fi catalogue in today's paper - they have a Soniq 32" HD LCD for $676, very affordable. I might just buy that for myself and lend it to the club for the Nationals.

I would have liked to rent a 50" or bigger but not for that sort of money, just for a weekend.

We usually hook up the LCD projector and DVD player, and show Herbie movies on the wall screen for the kids. But that only works at night, when it's dark, as there's too much ambient light during the day.

Phil if it were for me i'd spend a little bit more as the Soniq's wash out quite easily and picture quality isn't up to scratch. I recommend spending a little bit more on a name brand and remember you can haggle JB's quite a bit. Just my 2cents worth.

Telefunken - fantastic high quality German brand. Many thanks but 34cm is a wee bit too small...

The 32" (81cm) Soniq is very tempting, but yes I was wondering about the innards and whether they are the same as the name brands or not. JB also have a 32" Hisense HD LCD for $796, a Samsung 32" HD LCD for $898 and a TEAC 32" HD LCD (with build-in DVD player) for $991.

Might pop into the Good Guys at Bankstown this arvo and see what they have.

It sounds like a plan, so I will run it by the committee next week and see what we can do. We will already have a double raffle at the Nats this year but I don't know what prizes are already included. But yes a big TV would be a cool idea. Yes Steve I would prefer an LCD as it would be easier to see in the bright area next to the Club Veedub stand.

I know VW always said 'Think Small' but with lots of things, it isn't true. With HD TVs, beers, pizzas and bosoms, the bigger the better.

hmmm big bosoms are only good to an extent and only if they are natural... or at least look natural... though I am partial to the smaller variety as well but before I take the thread on a tangent and into BA, I wouldnt buy anything soniq(again). I bought a HD STB from L&B and the picture is crap. It gets lines on it occasionally and certain colours flare up. Im not brand name elitist, my other 2 stb's are cheap no name stuff too and work well.

I'm with Rose I think most of the guys and ladies would buy tickets in the TV particularly to support the clubs that support our insanities.

I would stick with GOOD Brands... NEC SONY TOSHIBA
Samsung - Dick Smith usually has Telefunken LCD TVs..

Your antenna system needs to be at its optimum for HD
and large TVs...
All Large cities should now be on UHF frequencies - so, the old VHF antenna - the large one - can be thrown away...

You do need a good signal on UHF.... trees etc cause problems... and too strong a signal also causes problems..

This used to be true, when they first came out they could be used as room heaters, they had big fans in them to cool stop them from melting, and when you had the sound volume down they were distracting.

My 50" plasma has a max consumption of 250W, which isn't that much more than an old 68cm CRT tv. Considering the screen is 4 times bigger, I thought that was unreal.

Also plasma power consumption varies with the picture. A bright screen will suck more juice than a dark screen. LCD is lit with a lamp and that is on at full brightness all the time.
