I was just watching a story on the news about Nari the dolphin being returned to the ocean after sea world nursed him back to health.
It made me wonder if he knew the humans were trying to help him. And then, just because I am weird, I wondered if the people that claim to have been taken by aliens and probed actually had a disease (known or not) and the aliens treated them like we treated Nari and then returned them.
What do you guys think.

Not the most common thread to find on a VW forum 😂

I'm still working out whether i'm a human or an alien....

ummm no no no not me, it was this guy I know, really, honest.
😊

You could have a pretty valid point though.
Humans are just generally scared of the unknown. Its just the human condition.

Maybe that's what they do. Have a big party and then come and probe some humans for fun when they are stoned.

lol kinda like when people go out and tip cows over. Which I've never done but would one day would like to try.
I believe some form of life has to exist out there. The universe is too big for it not to.
what about the theory of aliens getting the shits with dumbass humans, so they used earth as a dumping ground. sent us all down on a big ass space ship to get us out of the way. Now they just come back every now and then to check up on us, see how we're going. Not sure about the probing bit, I think we're just being abused in a happyslaps video to be posted on myspacefacebook.
us humans have done our own fair ammount of probing! we probed the moon, mars, and venus, but so far we have not probed uranus!!😁🤪😁

Uranus actually got a good probing by the Voyager 2 spacecraft in January 1986. It didn't find any Klingons circling, though (old joke).
I am with Carl Sagan on this one. He maintains that life, from bacteria right up to civilisations, are a mathematical certainty on other worlds. There is nothing special about our world; you only need a G-class star like our Sun and a suitable planet in its ecosphere. There are millions in our galaxy, and he once calculated the average distance between life-bearing planets should be around 60 light years.
That is quite close on the galactic scale but far, far too great a gulf to ever cross in a spacecraft. 60 light years is 567,000,000,000,000 km - some 1.4 billion times further away than the moon, and it has to be crossed at sub-light speeds (since faster-than-light speed is impossible). Look at how much the moon missions cost and how difficult it was - some badly informed people still doubt that it happened at all - and reaching Mars looks like a hopeless dream now. Yet the nearest life-bearing planet is 1.4 billion times further away.
They are out there, but we can't reach them, and they can't reach us.
when "they" are looking for other life forms, why do they look for water and so on. Who is to say that other life forms need water? Who says when it is too cold for life? Those sci fi looking fish in the deep wouldnt last too long on the barrier reef. Even if the temperature was the same they would die from lack of pressure probably. A Kakadu lizard wouldnt live in Melbourne. When a frog can live dried out in the mud for years and spring to life within an hour of rain, I dont think you can discount that some form of life cant exist in any conditions so loking for water is pointless to me. "Its life Jim, but not as we know it" In any case I think the bazillions of dollars spent looking could be better spent on preserving the life forms we do know about.
Life will always adapt to its surroundings. Life has adapted to the ocean deep and warm shallows; to mountains, deserts and jungles. There is bacterial life (that lives in volcanic vents) that can't live in oxygen.
But ALL life on earth needs water - there is no other kind. All living cells need water to exchange energy and maintain the chemical reactions that allow processing of food, disposal of wastes, and reproduction. Water is unique in that so many other chemicals are solvent in it, as well as being so common. Some creatures like the frog can go into stasis for a while - viruses can even be freeze dried - but none of them can do anything until water returns. Bacteria, animals, plants, all need water. You could propose 'life as we don't know it' based on some other liquid - but which one? Nothing else works.
Likewise you could propose life based on some other element apart from carbon, but only carbon has the ability to blend with other chemicals in so many ways. It is the perfect 'lego' building block. Not even silicon, its closest neighbour, will work (Silicon-based life has been proposed but never observed. Its more complicated compounds are unstable. You could never make a silicon-based DNA string).
You could propose that rocks are 'alive' in some way that we don't recognise or understand or could ever measure. You might be right. But what use is that? That's a scientific dead end because we can't go any further.
It makes sense to look for life that is like ours - it's what we know. Listening for alien radio signals on large radio telecopes, or measuring interstellar gas clouds with spectroscopes, or studying stars with the Hubble is expensive, yes, but we learn something from it and we better ourselves. And it's a lot cheaper than spending trillions on the military (the US government spent 20 times more money on Vietnam than on the entire Apollo project).
As a silicone based lifeform I am not allowed to reveal strategic information and current mission objectives......oops

Actually I spend my day working with artificial silicone-based life forms - the PC on my desk. Not a very smart life form though...
35% of your poll are aliens and they wont tell you... So what does that tell you? We do exist......👍
