Beetle wasn't running right Friday.
Ok, clean the carby, check the plugs & points.
Take out the plug on #2 & the thread comes with it.
Engine out, break out a spare head. Two, maybe 3 hours work tops.
Take the head off, #2 has a pool of oil in it.
No problem, I got it pulled down this far, may as well do the rings.
Now, it's going to be a days work, so it has to wait til my day off, today.
Well let me tell you, I've had the Midas touch in reverse all day. Everything I've touched has turned to shit.
Got #2 ringed, back in the cylinder. Gudgeon pin catches on the sleeve in the conrod, bends said sleeve & jams the works.
Get the pin back out but the piston is now stuck.
Got the new rings off the piston & smash the piston to get it off the damaged sleeve..
Thankfully I have spare everything.
Changed the offending sleeve, put the rings on the next piston in line. Won't fit in the barrel !!
For some reason, I have two oversized pistons.
Rings off, oversized piston in the scrap bin.
Next piston.
Put the rings on, put it in the barrel, line it up, tap in the pin. Wont go, or at least not far enough to get the outer clip on.
This is the gudgeon pin off the oversize piston & it's longer.
Pin out, FIND ANOTHER F@#$CKING PIN, MAKE SURE THIS P@#CK IS THE RIGHT F@#$ING SIZE & HAVE ANOTHER F@#$ING GO !!
So it has taken four hours to get one cylinder back on the engine.
Now I'm in front of the computer on the very sensible reasoning, that if I give up now, I can't balls anything else up.
If you asked me a week ago if I knew what I was doing, I'd have said yes.
Right now, I'm not so sure.
