Hi,

We're chasing a twin port 1600 engine for the baja bug (drop bear). It currently has a 1800 type 4 kombi engine in it but we've decided the fan setup wont be much chop in the sand, so are going to go back to a beetle engine, (or even an earlier kombi engine with an upright fan).

We dont want to spend heaps as its only our hack car. Maybe up to $1000 depending on the engine? Depends whats on offer. We can trade a 1800 T4 kombi engine (or pay cash of course), the engine running at the moment in the bug (car isnt registered yet), we got the barrels honed and put in new rings when we got it and got the heads reconditioned. I cant remember how much that cost (i'll check at home tonight). The engine runs pretty well, we've driven it around the paddock a few times, the carbies just need a kit as they leak fuel out the gasket.

If we buy an engine the T4 will be up for sale, I will post up a figure on how much if we dont get a trade on a beetle engine.

If you can help, please email hickoz_bro84 *at* hotmail.com - prefer an engine around Brisbane, though we may travel a couple of hours out for one.

Thanks!
Dana and Gerrard

Why dont you buy an upright kit for the type 4?

I'm sure you can get one for less than $1000

You're right, we can definately get an upright kit for under $1000, we've looked into that... But the $$$ just don't weigh up when you consider the cost of a 1600 Twin port, and the cash back when you sell the existing motor... then the effort of converting to an upright kit, versus the effort of swapping motors... Just trying to figure out exactly whats required for the upright kit has been more difficult then pulling out the motor, and putting it back in... literally!

Thanks for the suggestion.

The type 4 will have a lot more torque than the 1600, just what you want for a Baja.
