Whether this one is the 'record breaker' depends on how you measure it.
As this will be issue #22, it will be the longest ever series of professionally-published Australian VW magazines, by the same publisher, with (almost) the same magazine name. The previous record was held by Australian VW Power, 1988-92, with 21 consecutive issues (Craig I remember your first issue was called 'Volkswagen Magazine Australia' rather than 'VW Magazine Australia' but we don't have to worry about that).
It ISN'T the longest series of all, though. Express Publications put out a long series of VW magazines from 1993 to 1998, mostly edited by Geoff Paradise. They were supposedly called 'Volkswagen Australia Magazine', and several of them had that title, but mostly they changed their name each issue. There were issues called 'Street VWs', 'VW Action', 'Best VWs', 'Red Hot VWs', 'Super VWs' and several 'VW Annuals' in a long and confusing series. Eventually there were 20 different issues in the original scheduled run, published every three months. In addition, there were four more 'collector editions' including 'Tech Tips' and a 'Yearbook'. After a six month gap, Express Publications rebooted their VW magazine and relaunched it as the 'Australian Volkswagen Magazine', edited by Nathan Ponchard. There were four more issues produced, before Express finally ended their VW magazines in December 1999.
Therefore, there were 28 different issues of VW magazines published by Express Publications. They just didn't have the same magazine name.
Obviously Australian VW clubs have published their own magazines for longer, and more often. There have been 291 issues of Club Veedub's magazine Zeitschrift so far, but it only started in 1985. The old NSW club's 'Wageneer' ran from 1955 to about 1998 (?) or so, and I am sure the SA, VIC and WA club magazines have been going just as long. But club magazines are not 'professional' and can't be bought at newsagents.
We have carefully catalogued and described all these previous Australian VW magazines on the Club Veedub website:
