What happened to the "green" Olympics? Why spend the money setting this up, when there's a perfectly good track 30 kms west? Doesn't make sense in the current climate.
I agree with Steve. The V8 Supercars are a contrived, narrow sighted category designed to appeal to the boofhead element. The Commodores have Chev engines and Ford rears so they are not 'Holdens' anyway. Toyota wanted to run V8-powered sedans in the series and were turned down. And all the existing cars look the same anyway. Boring.
Formula 1 is going through a major cost rationaisation process, and so should V8s. They should go back to a more rational 'production' V8 spec, and open it to other makes, not just Holden and Ford. It would be great to see those two competing with DTM-style V8 Audis, Mercs and BMWs, and yes Toyotas too. Standardising rules and specs would also allow overseas teams to enter and compete.
There was some fallout between the V8 Supercar organisation and the Eastern Creek management over the event, with the V8s saying they wiill 'never return to Eastern Creek'.
the goverment is wasing 90mill plus on this when they could spend it on The Creek Track and make it attractive to F1 and the like and steal the F1s from Victoria once again we will be paying for it for many years to come
It will cost a fortune to set up the Homebush circuit for racing. Traffic management, fences, safety barriers, pit facilities, signage, etc etc etc. And what about the crowds, are they going to erect temporary stands? Food stalls, drinks, toilets, etc etc etc.
Then when it's over, it all gets pulled down again.
Naturally there is no way that Homebush can be used the other 364 days of the year. Car clubs can't hire it for club motorsport, or driver training, or shows. When Oran Park closes, we will be left with Eastern Creek or Wakefield Park to go racing in club motorsport (Mt Panorama on a handful of days as well). And at the moment, car clubs can't afford to hire Eastern Creek.
Look at all the circuits in NSW that have closed over the years. Oran Park, Amaroo, Catalina, Mt Druitt, Gnu Blas, Parramatta Park, Nowra, Schofields, Berkshire Park, Penrith... even Maroubra Olympic. The Homebush money would make a real difference to improving Eastern Creek, which really is rather crap at the moment.
I agree with Dave why is the Govt wasting OUR money on this when we have Hospitals,Public transport, roads ,housing etc that desperately need repair after years of degeneration by consecutive labour govt's. If we made our Govt ministers responsible for their portfolios we would be much better off. I say wipe all benefits for previous Govt ministers and if they don't perform during their term turf them out on their ears.I am sick pf paying for mistakes by Idiots.

The Tojo pushrod V8s are so much quicker they would dominate the sillycar series. No wonder they don't want them.

just look back in history when the skylines ,volvos, sierras, bmw`s mazdas etc dominated the racing, they chucked em out for this 2 make crap, bring back more production orientated cars 👍🤪👍
Sorry Steve, yes I forgot all about the Green and Gold Bellfrog patrols. Why don't they have them during the Easter Show?
Nothing wrong with street circuits per se - Monaco GP is the most famous and of course it has to be set up and pulled down every time. Same with others such us the Indy Car at Surfers.
But they are set up to run smack bang in the middle of town where all the action is, whereas Homebush is rather out west a bit (look at the footy fans who complain that the Olympic Stadium is too far to go). And the circuit they have laid out for Homebush is mundane. Down Australia Ave, between the horse stables and brick pit. Left onto Kevin Coombs, past more horse stables on the left, and mangroves on the right. Past the water feature, and sweep left past the waste management centre. Past the ANZ stadium carpark and left onto Dawn Fraser. Turn right at the Novotel and mcDonalds, a series of sweepers past the old abattoir buildings, a final kink near the railway station, and back onto Australia Ave again near the upper car park. Monaco it ain't.
If they wanted a REAL street circuit, surely there are better alternatives. What about through the city of Sydney, sweeping around Hickson Rd and under the Harbour Bridge? Or using some nice driving roads in the National park, or Henry Lawson Drive, or the Comenarra?

dont just look at the pictures, remember what it was like. Sierras went round and round and round won everything and it was boring and people complained. Skylines came in and went round and round and round won everything and it was boring and people complained. It went to a 2 make series (in bodyshell at least), after a couple of years getting parity right, the competition is much closer, its popularity is bigger than ever, revenue bigger than ever, tv coverage better than ever. There are more people watching V8 practice than there are people watching some cricket and football matches.

well then it was up to ford and holden to up their ante instead of just banning the far superior products...... but thats in the past and now we get to watch close racing of things that are on the outside the same as what some people drive these days,i think i`d rather watch the footy😂
