Hi All,

I'm after a replacement steering wheel for myh 64 beetle (see photo). Any ideas what a new one would be worth and where I could pick one up? Anyone have a good second hand one, with horn ring?

Thanks
Nick

from the picture that one looks to be in good condition for a used one. just about all of them will have cracks where yours does plus most have some where the spokes meet the rim and around the rim as well. it just needs a horn ring with screws and springs plus the horn button.

go here http://thebugshop.org/gotech.htm and look at the steering wheel restoration section near the bottom.
pick up the POR 15 putty when you are in sydney as they charge $$$ for freight. (i'm stuck 1/2 way through my wheel restoration till i get to sydney for that very reason)

have fun.

Resurrecting this thread as I am putting the same wheel back on my bug. Beetle did have a GT steering wheel, so I am not sure what should be under the steering wheel. Can anyone tell me if it just fits on shaft or whether there are some addotional rubber/copper washer type thingys needed between?

David, once you take the old sports wheel and boss off, the standard steering wheel just slides on and do up the nut

theres a brass contact thats sticking up off the indicator switch, this is what makes contact with the brass ring on the bottom of the steering wheel for the horn

they have a habit of breaking off or as you can see on mine getting a hole worn through them
if its broken off or badly worn either get another indicator switch or put a push button for the horn on the dash somewhere for the ghetto fix

theres also a grey plastic bushing you can see over the splines dont fret if its missing as most are already

Thanks joel was doing a search for steering wheels and never realised I hi jacked a wanted thread lol. The brass bit is not broken on mine though plastic bit is missing, so should work ok. I have now just got to get the 3 springs and one of the plastic bits that is above springs, and then fit the horn itself and another job done. I forgot about that silly button on handbrake when we chatted damn it lol
Oh well hope to get one at Nationals. Thanks once again
